The best lounges

We are flying from JFK to LAX with AA and LAX to AKL with QF. We overland to CHC and fly from there to MEL/CNS/SYD all with QF. Then it is on to BKK with BA. Which are the best lounges I can access at the airports with a choice please?

What is your status and what class of travel? These determine eligibility to use lounges.

That said, no choice only Qantas Club in CHC, MEL, CNS.

Cairns Qantas Club

I was in the Cairns Qantas club (domestic) last Saturday (July 16) waiting for QF703 (Cairns to Melb).

I gotta tell you, the lounge was full!
They were taking chairs out of the business center so people could sit down.
They even made announcements on the PA asking people to take their bags off the chairs and put them in the storage racks, to free up chair space.

All those QC members (and Gold/Plats of course) taking their children in, really fills the place up!

Belive you won't have a choice of lounge at any of the airport / ailrine / class combinations you have suggested.

JFK - AA operate from Terminal 9 - lounge quite spacious with a view over the apron - standard AA amenities (& pay for drinks). JFK's a bit of a mess though, so lounge is an oasis. Line up to check in then queue again for the security check.

TIP: stay with your bags until they have been screened and ask for them to be locked!

LAX - Shared AA facility as the flight's a code-share with AA.

CHC-CNS - QF lounge your only option...

Domestic Business Class

If your flying International Business class on Qantas then you can access the Qantas Club at the departing airport.
However if your flying Qantas domestic Business class (e.g. Melb to Sydney) then you cannot access the Qantas Club unless your a member or have a pass.

Or if you are travelling on an international itinerary. So the OP should still have access (may need to show ticket or BP proof to the lounge bouncer).

That's not always possible. Each airport and terminal can have its own arrangements which in some cases are when pax is separated from their bags

Lounge access is provided on the basis of your travel class (business class gets you into business class lounges) and your OneWorld Status. If you are OneWorld Emerald then you can use First Class lounges.

At LAX, if you have a long layover on connecting JFK-LAX-AKL flights, the use the Terminal 4 lounge before heading over to TBI for the QF26 departure to AKL. The T4 lounge is nicer. But if you are not connecting (ie stopover in LAX) you won't have a choice to use the T4 lounge.

The rest of the time there is not going to be much choice of lounges, just one available to you.
