The 100ml limit has been removed in many countries, why does Australia still have it?

Someone I spoke with went through an airport with a larger container of liquid and they just said take a swig of it…possibly Athens. Seems like a crude but totally logical approach

Meanwhile in Australia you take an almost empty 110ml container through and they will confiscate it saying they "go by container size".

We paid billions for these fancy new machines and they can't even accurately detect if the amount of liquid is above or below the limit. Well, they probably can, but we choose to ignore it here.

But why would you take 110 aka over the 100 ml size when it is on the , currently , "not allowed " list ?

Why is Australia so behind?

We still have paper incoming passenger cards - a lot of other countries including 2nd / 3rd world ones have electronic ones.

Whether or not paper cards is attributed to our strict customs and quarantine (in comparison to other countries where you can simply just walk out once you've collected your luggage, many times no questions asked), is another question though.

I'm sure that QR codes can be implemented that include declarations of food etc.

New Zealand has similarly strict biosecurity customs and quarantine and they have digital incoming passenger cards. Their form is also a lot easier to understand around declaring food - they have a list of all the things you can bring in and ask you to declare if you have anything else.

I can’t think of a reasonable Dad-joke relating the collection of moneys by Qatar Airways each time someone entering Oz would scan a QR code. Sorry.
