Thank you for your loyalty

80 Status Credits, no points.

LTG with virtually no points or SC earn on QF metal for about 10 years (have had more recent earn on JQ though).
Aha! So you’re the ghost they’re trying to smoke out, LTG locked in and not a single flight in a decade. :p Is it true that people ditch QF for another airline once you had the LTG in your pocket?

🤣 Yes indeed.

I have had quite a few QF operated flights, but only classic awards. Although as I live abroad QF really don't meet my needs (and LTG achievement happened shortly after moving) so there is that ... and the fact that they don't operate any daytime flights from Asia to Australia.

Now I have had a few QF marketed flights (operated by EK) between SIN & MEL and SIN & BNE before EK ceased them completely. (Actually sorry I lied, I had a couple of these where I did SIN-BNE-MEL-SIN with the longer sectors operated by EK and BNE-MEL obviously operated by QF).

For those whose minds immediately start thinking about the data like this when they see such offers and occasions - like mine clearly does - please enjoy this small and interesting table:

The additional row in the P1 section is so we may address the % of both the total AND QF marketed components of retention (which I assume this bonus would go toward?)

Cheers,
Matt.

I think NB are the true winners on this table. The gifted 40SC provide them precisely 100% of the SC required for status retention. As a WP, I feel comparatively ripped off 😜

LTS and LTG are different again as the status credits neither help attain or retain their current level - more about the level above.

I don t really understand why the loyalty gift doesnt count to lifetime. So many complained that the bonus doesn t help to requal cause they already did, so those gift are completly useless. Making it to lifetime would at least do something positif. Anyway.

Yeah the "loyalty gift" not counting towards LT status is useless to me and doesn't feel very genuine, since I'll requalify for Platinum in this year without it.

Though the gift is probably just a PR stunt to get some positive Qantas news into the media cycle, your Sunrise/Today fluff piece, and blogs that just copy/paste the lines fed to them by Qantas for an easy story.

Exactly what I am thinking. If bonus SC does not count towards lifetime SC, may just get double points instead.

I don’t think this change was targeted at limiting LTP numbers. I think too many getting LTG too young is probably what they are looking to address.

Even after this change I am still likely to get to LTG with quite possibly more flying years ahead of me than behind.
If that were the case, why not just move the bar though? I agree it'll have limited effect (imo) on limiting LTPs who weren't going to get there anyway, as the bar is very high, but LTS/LTG is low in comparison (not too low, it's still a lot of flying for all but those who aren't doing it anyway, but in comparison to LTP it is).
My 2c as another data point.

I've not received any emails regarding the DSC or the loyalty gift. Only became aware of the DSC in conversation yesterday evening. I opened my app at that moment and there was no reference to it there either but saw the loyalty gift so that's something. Considering that I have given QF over $10k during DSC periods in the last 12 months you'd think they'd be right onto sending me that email.

The timing of the gift is great for me seeing that 1st Sept is my anniversary date. Combine that with a banked loyalty bonus that I'll be able to claim after the 1st before they change the rules, means that I'll start off the membership year with 200SC.

In saying that, it will all be moot anyway as I wasn't going to come close to maintaining WP this year anyway. As a result the DSC is largely meaningless to me seeing that I have already made most of my QF bookings for the next 12 months. Only big outstanding one(s) is a europe trip which we were likely going EK on anyway as didn't want the faff of connecting and a US/CAN trip but were looking to burn VA points on that.
I hadn't received anything initially, but the email did arrive some time yesterday in the end.

I'm not doubting that, but whichever way you spin it, the PR on their antics isn't good

I'd argue the PR for the events you reference have barely made a blip in the media in recent times. Nobody is talking about these things - all is now forgotten or ignored as was demonstrated this week. The FW thing was a very old story - sure the fine is recent but it was expected and the end of a long saga, so was ignored by the everyday person. The data breach sure was big news but I think most people know this stuff happens a lot and was quite forgiving on the whole. Actually the recent Gmail hack was significantly worse than the QF one, probably effected more people, and even that barely made the news.

so it's not like they're really going to suffer.

Now you're getting it.

Now you mention it I was actually more annoyed the FW thing than the data breach, absurd as that is from a personal POV. But it was an expected outcome, it was only the fine being announced that brought it back into my memory.

As for the data breach, for better or worse I was (as many of us probably were) caught up in the Optus saga too - hasn't stopped me using their services, for better or worse.

Now you're getting it.
😂 ok I concede, I'll return to angrily looking for DSC flights to book.

Still no email for either the gift or the DSC. Did get two promo emails this morning though: bonus points for switching to a QF home loan and a travel insider email....

Did you unsubscribe from their mailing list? You may not get the email but you should still see the offer in your Qantas app.
