Looks like Thailand is cracking down, visa free back to 30 days for most countries with three to lose the privilege while there has been recent reports of such travellers being required to show they are carrying the required cash (20000 baht) on arrival to enter, rather than just bank statements/balances.

If you have prepaid accomodation and tours/activties, one shouldnt need to spend much more, and would expect to be able to use card at hotels and better restaurants.

Ive never been asked to show any cash entering any country. I have been asked to show proof of onward/departure ticket and in Cuba to prove i had TI.

Post covid ive boarded plenty of flights ex Australia and arrived OS with less than $20 cash, as i prefer to use cards or withdraw from atm post arrival.

I was contemplating a visit to Thailand but wouldnt go if i was expected to carry significant cash as would feel unsafe doing so.

I doubt any AFFers would be targeted by Thai Immigration Officers. I'll posit that there is a specific cohort of grubs who think they can misbehave with impunity who will be asked some hard questions and be forced to show their 'credentials' as it were.
