UPDATED Guidelines on the New Thailand Travel Restrictions starting January 9, 2023

1. Airline passengers 18 years old or older must provide proof of full vaccination or proof of Covid-19 recovery not more than 6 months (180 days). Passengers who have not been vaccinated must have a letter from a doctor providing a reason.

Make sure you have your certificate on hand.

Govt U-turns on Covid vaccination rule for visitors

The government on Monday rescinded a policy announced at the weekend requiring visitors to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said, citing sufficient immunisation levels in China and globally.

Seems sensible given how (a) horse has bolted (b) at least in so-called 'developed' nations, it's mostly those 80 and above in nursing homes who die "with" it and (c) Thailand is a nation heavily dependent on tourism.

In Philippines, AFAIK, mask wearing is stupidly still practised on flights to and from as well as even outdoors in the street.

Is this (still) the case in Thailand, and to and from?

Not on our flights in the last month.
Quite a few wearing masks outside though but virtually all were young and they have little risk of serious disease.

What Thailand needs is to weaken the THB to stimulate exports and stop treating foreigners like cash cows.

Tourist numbers picked up until about 2 weeks from Christmas where most appeared to go back home for holidays and the numbers have not returned to the high levels pre-Christmas. One would have to blame ridiculously high airfares and high room rates.

When I was looking at hotels before Christmas for April 2023 some of the rates were ridiculously high and higher than pre-Covid. Now they find very low forward bookings so rates are back to enticing levels.

Let's not mention golf. Farang is back. Let's increase golf fees to never seen prices. I cannot justify playing golf in Thailand where the golf + caddy tip + drinks approaches THB4000 (AUD170).

I will try to fiind more of the THB1000-1300 green fee + cart fee + caddy fee deals but looks like they've cut the cheap green fee vouchers they were selling in the hope of foreigners paying exhorbitant golf rates.
