As TomVexille points out, a star alliance F boarding pass is supposed to allow access to any star alliance F class lounge.

However - and I hear Sydney is getting better - there has been some resistance by SQ in honouring these arrangements. The MEL SQ lounge doesn't like to do it, and will refer you to the lounge invitation issued at check-in. If you want to access the SQ lounge in MEL it can (sometimes) be a battle. (One of the things the MEL lounge likes to tell people is that they are not a star alliance lounge, but a silver kris lounge.)

You are however in your rights to request entry, and unless there are capacity constraints, or you otherwise don't meet lounge access requirements (dress code), you should be allowed in.

That's when you politely but firmly remind them of the rules.

My last trip to the MEL lounge I was welcomed in warmly with a NZ BP and the lounge was quite busy. Funny thing was I was crediting to VA ;)

It was a stark contrast to my last visit where the lady at the desk tried to point me downstairs but relented immediately.

Check in staff will direct/suggest you to use the NZ lounge, including a printed invitation reflecting same. The *A rules suggest you can use any of the lounges though - either way, none of those lounges are fancy :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

TG F pax are currently being directed to the SYD SKL lounge and positively welcomed in.
On my two departures last month the printed 'ANZ lounge' on the boarding pass was crossed out and 'SQ lounge' written in by hand at check in.

I got the usual 'TG use the NZ lounge' at the SYD SKL desk but i stood my ground and they let me in. Its much nicer than the NZ lounge

I can confirm Happy Trails' experience - at the TG F check-in I was told the NZ lounge is under renovation and was invited to use the SKL F lounge. They probably assumed suggesting the temp. NZ lounge would be a bit of an offence towards a F pax. No issues with SQ staff while entering the lounge either.
