Test email from the IT kids at QANTAS

Mine got auto spam filtered by Gmail. Didn't even know I got it until I checked.

And the lesson for today is, if you are even possibly going to accidentally send a test mail to the live customer database, it would be a good policy to remove your signature from the bottom of the email, to at least remove some doubt as to who stuffed up.

Yes. Thought I got onto a list because I made a Qantas Hotels booking recently. Did check out the guy's company and was amused by the self-consciously "kewl" image the agency is trying to project:

Mapp Cloud is a badass digital marketing platform for companies that don’t want to follow the flock.

We bring back the fun to digital marketing, while pushing marketers to crush it at their job. Mapp is a rad digital marketing platform for companies that don’t want to follow the other marketing sheep.

Isn't this a phished / spoofed ( or whatever the term is) email designed to have the reaction it's getting?

Or am I paying too much credit to someone?

Email from Qantas hotels but Qantas loyalty email address.

I had made several changes to hotel bookings the past few days so thought they were sending me a link/update.

Isn't this a phished / spoofed ( or whatever the term is) email designed to have the reaction it's getting?

Nope, the email passes multiple authentication mechanisms including DKIM, SPF and DMARC:

dkim=pass [email protected]
spf=pass (domain of bounce.loyalty.qantas.com designates xx.xx.xx.xx as permitted sender)
dmarc=pass

It was simply Qantas's marketing firm sending out an email they shouldn't have to the live customer list.
