Esteemed members and JohnK,

Next month I will be relatively free from Wednesday 3pm to Sunday 7am, and I am seeking suggestions for a quick international get-away or two. I am based in Sydney, QF WP and VA Platinum. I am a man of the people, but would prefer flights with proper business class.

I've looked at the Sydney Airport departures listing and can see possibilities such as:

• Auckland
• Wellington
• Singapore
• Bangkok

I would like to go to Tokyo, but the flight back is at the wrong time.

Any other suggestions?

Esteemed members that include JohnK will likely point out that there are a number of Wednesdays and a number of Sundays in any given month. Now I understand that a man of your upbringing and social stature may feel they all roll into one, us lesser folk will need a few more details - i.e. which Wednesday and which Sunday to base our recommendations.

Following the title of your thread however, there are a number of locations that don't need specific dates.

I shall be spending some of them at my country house, but I think that will get a bit boring after a while, so thought a little sojourn would be fun.

Autumn in Kabul is very nice, so I hear, but I suspect there will be at least one connection flight, it is a little tricky to do this with OW or VA though, and would involve more time flying than actually being there......so perhaps not.

Unless you like Rugby Union I'd probably avoid NZ at the moment!

Have you thought about Bali with Garuda? How I loved Bali, with the quaint bars populated by footy teams on their end of year sojourns. Simply wonderful.

If you had more time I would strongly recommend Skegness in the UK. (According to the Skegness Tourist Board it is much better than Mablethorpe...although I found the beaches sandier at Mablethorpe.) Oh how I yearn for the North Sea and it's beautiful grey sludge like waves.

I'd prefer to do a direct flight if possible. I have heard of Rugby Union but didn't realise there was a game going on in NZ. I'd also like to be as far as possible from "footy teams on their end of year sojourns." Kabul sounds interesting but alas I think it would be a bit of a stretch time-wise.

Actually October is a good month to live in Canberra. The first two Mondays are public holidays.

If you had more time I would strongly recommend Skegness in the UK. (According to the Skegness Tourist Board it is much better than Mablethorpe...)

IIRC its only a 4 hour flight... FJ, VA, and QF (I think its Codeshare with FJ) all fly there.
Cheap 5 star accomodation too at denaru because from memory it should be either off season or shoulder season...

Good place to do nothing for a few days.
