Thanks Smarty. I am not on QF 11 but the new AA flight due to come in behind it. We will be at the front of the aircraft. I am hopeful, I did read that they hand out orange cards to expedite tight connections.

You "should" be more "fine" nowadays then you used to be.

But it can still be a nightmare. Just slightly less of a nightmare.
 
Another pro-tip for LAX: Keep your orange "Express Connection" card for your next trip! I've had the same one that I've used about four times this year as there's a specially designated "Express Connection" line you can use for both immigration and customs (the customs Express Connection line is shared with air crew and Global Entry). The card has easily cut about 20min each time off my entry experience. I even have a completely blank one which is very handy (they usually write your flight details on the top half, but no one checks them).

Note that these can also be used at some other US airports when flying domestically to shorten the line. For example, ORD has an Express Connection line in the domestic terminal that I've also cheekily used, though YMMV.
