Traffic is always solid in Manhattan itself, the bridge/ tunnel (depends which airport you're going into) into Manhattan can vary depending on time of day, road closures, things on etc

Also not sure when you land but I always get in early evening and it's a pretty smooth trip in.

I remember trying to get down 5th Avenue from the Upper East Side a few years ago for a show, Brooklyn Bridge was shut down for filming of Batman and traffic basically was at a standstill for a very long period.

As for the train (especially for first time visitors) - I wouldn't and I'm pretty familiar now with the subway etc. Last thing I feel like after about 23 hours of travel is lugging luggage on a train and then walking blocks with it!

I would assume so, but never seen any real traffic jams, even when the Obama was in town

Taxi driver are switched on any know where to avoid and when and on a fixed price job from the airport it is in their best interest

so tossing up btwen fixed rate taxi, dial7, and recommended clean trusty town car $usd85 cash inc 'tolls/parking' . Might decide closer to the day. In all honesty, it's not dearer that getting a taxi home from airport in Perth!

Hi, i can send you details of who i used in the end if you like . Arrived back last week. On arrival i used a fixed price yellow cab and pretty much took my own life in my hands! Crazy ride but all part of the experience. No wait to speak of at around 2pm in arvo at jfk. I used a private driver on way back to airport. Clean suv type car. Probs similar to what princess fiona recommending. For some reason I'm having problems pm'ing you. I think I'll join this site soon of that helps! Need advice on getting back there but with qff this time.

Recently used Dial 7 for 5 of us + suitcases, ordered online for both directions and everything worked fine, on the return leg the driver was outside our apartment waiting. You can also quote coupon numbers that can be goggled and get $6 of the quoted fair.
