Tasmanian inspiration

I'm planning on heading to NW Tassie for a few days in October to see the tulips. I'm looking for a suggestion for somewhere else for 4-5 days to have a complete R&R. My preferences would be to have a sea view and have somewhere that I can walk to cafes and restaurants easily. I'd prefer self contained rather than hotel but wouldn't rule out a hotel. Can anyone recommend somewhere please. Paging @RooFlyer @Steady @Tassieoptom

For a hotel, I can recommend the place I stayed at when I viewed the tulips last year (but I had a function in Ulverstone also to attend)... the Madsen boutique hotel Accommodation in Penguin | Luxury, Quality, Waterfront, Beachfront | Northwest Tasmania, Honeymoon

Its right on the waterfront at Penguin (although not all rooms have views over the water). Restaurants are a bit 'small town', but if you want to veg out, then hopefully you aren't looking for fancy.

BUT Burnie & Wynyard are closer to the tulip farm. Steady will know these best.

Just to clarify I’m staying with friends near Wynyard for a couple of days and was thinking of somewhere different even on south coast

Well the best place to spend 5 days after the high life of Wynyard is almost certainly Hobart.Plenty of choices on the waterfront.great day trips-ferry up to Mona,trip down to Bruny Island and plenty of good places to eat not to mention the Salamanca markets.

Hobart has river/water views and lots to see and do, it would be a good option.

If your preferred RnR is not doing lots of things - maybe somewhere on the East Coast - Bicheno, Scamander, Swansea/Coles Bay, Orford - you should be able to get somewhere with the views that is walking distance to a beach and the town centre, but there will be fewer café and restaurant options. May also be a bit of extra travel to get there.

I think the link I gave 'Discover Tasmania' is still a good one to explore, no matter where in the state you target.

I know Coles Bay well - its great for veging out in self-contained holiday homes. Restaurants will need a car (short drive) unless you are happy with the one or two that are in the village. Here is the site for Coles Bay/Freycinet: Wineglass Bay Coles Bay, Tasmania - Freycinet National Park

The Tasmania Visitor Information Network is also a great source of local info: TVIN Contact them for more detailed info in the area you select; you could e-mail them for accom places that meet your specific criteria.

Thanks I will check them out. I would much prefer not to have to drive to restaurants because I like to have a glass or two and am very conservative especially in a hire care and in a strange place..

If you go to Burnie, do not miss a tour of Hellyer's Rd distillery. Also their restaurant is really good.
