I have about 500gms - 1 kg of precious very old family photos and a few letters in (would be in an open for viewing envelope before sealing). I would envisage my nephew who is very keen to get hold of this info as he is the family historian, picking them up from a hotel concierge or some such thing.

Is anyone in CBR or maybe SYD going to LHR in the short to medium term?

Or, perhaps more generally, how and which company could be relied upon to get them to an address in the UK? Thanks for any help.

Not travelling as you wish, but as a family historian, can I ask you to please scan those images at 600dpi before parting with them! Then, personally, I would send him the images not the originals either on a posted CD or a large file transfer service such as Hightail. :) At the other end they can be printed to same quality, or even 'enhanced' to produce better than the original.

Apologies if that's all the bleeding obvious to you.

Thanks RooFlyer. It would've been obvious if I had access to such a scanner ;). But, yes, you are right I should try to organise it... on the other hand it sounds like a long tedious job.

Maybe, depending on how many, but imagine if the parcel gets lost!

if they are that precious then it's worth paying someone to scan them for you - check local proper photo stores

Fedex would probably charge you $100, for that you could buy a scanner :)

Or just go to Officeworks.

Scan Your Document

There appears to be at least 4 stores in the CBR region, and i'm sure it'll be pretty cost effective. I would imagine they can do 600dpi (our all-in-wonder scan/photocopier/fax here at work can and it's a pretty standard office unit).

Pack n Send may have a document service if you try them. Fedex and other couriers will charge you obscene rates for 'casual' use. I know a document from the Netherlands back to AU was €50 and that was 2 x A4 pages for a 48 hour delivery (they held up the timeframe at least).

My mum is heavily into the family tree stuff too. She's travelled extensively throughout Europe to trace back our roots and keeps hitting roadblocks. It's a tough thing to search back!

Thanks for all the comments. I may scan a few of the more choice items at Officeworks. I am transiting LHR mid year, I wonder if there is a PO there where I could post a usb or a CD?
