Anybody take their electric shaver onboard? From reading FT people don't have problems ... couldn't find much here in the search. I'm planning on taking my shaver out of the country so I can claim back GST from TRS, and also use it when I arrive at destination. Anyone see any problems with this?

I can't think of any issues. Nothing sharp, nothing liquid, and it's not a banned electronic item.

In fact, electronic shavers would be quite common in passenger's carry-on.

(obscure fact of the day - you can't bring handcuffs on a flight. Saw a lady getting pulled up for it when departing Switzerland last week. )

Hmmm Departing on 10 NOV. I bought the shaver on 11th of OCT. Seems like this is 30 or 31 days depending on how you count it. How would you count it? (TRS states within 30 days)

Thanks Mal for comments, funny about handcuffs ! Maybe they were kinky ones :!:

I would count it at 30, and be prepared to give my justification as to why. They may not even twig about the date as long as it looks about right.

Day 0 - when you purchased the item.
Day 1 - the next day etc. (You can be tricky and divide it into 24 hour blocks as well, so if you purchased it at 14:00, it's not actually a day until 14:00 the day after. )

Rather than saying
Day 1 - when you purchased the item.

(eg 10-12 October by method 1 is 2 days, method 2 is 3 days).

It's probably only about $20 or $30 rebate, so it's not really a huge loss if you don't get it. Also, don't credit back to a credit card or you'll be liable to have reward points deducted for the 'refund'.

(and with the handcuffs, they weren't fluffy or pink. Just seemed very strange)

Good point about the refund, thanks :)

$40 refund .... so worth taking it onboard IMO!

I was always worried about that myself after the bans on 'sharp' implements, and stopped taking it. After a while that got annoying so I asked and the guy said it's fine, and I've done it since without issue.

The problem is some of the removals are somewhat arbitrary so you need to know what's on the list rather than the characteristics of the item itself.

As for days, I don't think a staff member would accept that the first day is 'day 0.' It may work on a time basis: leaving at midday, if your flight arrives by midday the next day it's still one day later. But if you start work at 9 a.m. one day, then finish work at 5 p.m. the next day, I cannot think anyone would say that they've only done one day's work...

l've been pretty paranoid about taking my electric shaver through the security check. So much so, l haven't even tried.
From what l read now, it's ok to take through? Is that just domestic Oz, or world wide?

Never really given it a thought - as it is not sharp or liquid.

Can't remember if it was in hand luggage for HKG last year of WLG last month, but not even a hint of a question at BNE, KUL, LGK, CDG or SYD internationals during the last month.

It's as sharp as blunt scissors, or nail clippers, but they've been confiscated.

I haven't gone too far afield but have gotten it through international as well as domestic sectors.
