That's great service and why we love Japan. Having a little trouble locating JAL points flights on the QF site at the moment but will keep trying. Doing some dummy bookings to see the pattern and JAL is up to 9th August 2019 today with J availability on my JAL Mileage Bank login; but they don't show up when I log into QF! Haven't got any points with JAL so can't book there. Wondering if we should ditch Qantas FF when we use up all our points for the Vancouver and Tokyo return flights for next year, assuming we get them? Happy travels drron

Ring QF to make sure.We use AA points for JAL-you do have to ring but availability does match my JMB searches.

Will do drron but we have a few days until our required date of 13 August 2019 comes up on JAL. I was trying to establish the release timing, which does seem to be 11am Sydney time and in the case of JAL either 329 or 330 days before ETD.

Hi everyone,
I logged on at exactly 11am Sydney time today and secured two J seats on JAL, for Sydney to Narita and onto YVR on JL18, with the short connection time. Booked for 13 August 19 to give us a day up our sleeves before our cruise departure in YVR, just in case. I noticed from checking on the days beforehand that the JAL award seats came on in the Qantas ff login at 11am and had gone within a few minutes. Will try for our September return Tokyo to Sydney in about 3 weeks. Incidentally Qantas automatically allocated seats apart for us, based on our seating preferences. I took up the option of "chat" and a very helpful person suggested I could fix that by going into "manage booking" on the JAL site using the same booking reference, which I did successfully. So it all worked well for me and credit to Qantas and JAL. Thank you to everyone above for all the helpful feedback.

Hi Pug1,
Glad it worked out well for you. Doing the research beforehand with dummy bookings etc certainly helps so you’re prepared when the date you need becomes available.

This is a informative thread. Pug asked an interesting question, got useful answers, then advised us the outcome of his successful booking. Thanks to all.

thanks for the kind words ric_melb, I figured it would be useful for AFF members to know the outcome. My next decision is, having used most of our Qantas ff points for this booking, where to allocate future ones?? I noticed that if I had enough JAL mileage points I would have paid 140,000 miles for my award flights to Vancouver, instead of Qantas 242,000. I will leave this conundrum for another thread.
