Planning on going to Japan in February and want to take advantage of earning SC's for the trip.

Looking over the flights through Virgin partners, Singapore Airlines looks like the only viable option.

Does anyone have any other creative routes i could look at to maximise SC earn potential?

Flying from where?

Hong Kong Airlines or Hainan may be of use. But otherwise, SQ will be your best bet.

SQ is going to be the easiest and cheapest to book, though the Kris Flyer lounge is not that great, and there is no lounge access from Japan

alternatively you can book Sydney to HK on VA and then separate booking on HX - Hong Kong Airlines (this can get expensive compared to the one booking on SQ)

Seeing the troubles HK is facing, esp the riots (if you want to go to HK city centre, on transit stop), maybe for now going with SQ is best.

Interested in this thread. We are thinking of doing a short holiday to Japan via Singapore in a year or so. Planning to fly SQ A380's to experience middle Row 96 in J, then Suites 1A/2A for the return legs. It takes a lot of patience to find the right flights, but I think it would be a fantastic getaway.

It's going to take a couple of years just to save for the flights though....

Do you hold elite status with VA?
Delta flies from Singapore to Tokyo and has some good deals on Comfort+
You'll earn silver / gold / platinum bonus points on these flights.
I'm planning a trip in late August which is a combination of SYD to SIN on SQ then onwards SIN to NRT on DL.
Ticketed separately, of course.
For economy class travel, Delta has a Sky Club in Narita you can use as VA elite. SQ - has no lounge access for economy travel.
