So, probably a bit late notice, but with my parents over in Australia over New Years Eve, it means that we have free babysitting and go out and check out the fireworks.
I really don't want to be have to camp out from 10am, so am looking at some of the more civilised options; tickets remain available for Shark Island ($225pp), Clark Island ($375pp) and also looked at the Shangri La buffet and fireworks viewing (from their 3rd floor events room...). Would appreciate some advice from anyone in the know, perhaps a good restaurant to book, or something we haven't though of.

We've done a boat ( private) near the bridge and functions at Darling Harbour a couple of times. My only suggestions is take some comfy shoes and aim to wait for a while after midnight before trying to head home. After midnight the train network is chaotic for well over an hour. Last year at around 1 am we walked from Darling Harbour to Museum Station before we could get a train, Town Hall station was closed until the crowds settled down and there was a huge stream of people walking south along George Street from the Quay to Central . It's a wonderful night though :)
