Venue? Square bar again, 50% off drinks is a good argument!

If you are talking about Rydges plat discount, it has been enhanced to restrict the discount. Not sure if u know or not or have run into any issues since the change.

Yes - a QF enhancement to the programme

We get around it by going to the bar and pay as you go - 50% applies. At dinner though, 50% to two guests down from 12!

Happy to go there again if others happy...food wasn't too bad either...;).
Everyone welcome!
Where's medhead?

keeping my head down. I'm in town that day, no plans yet, so I'm pretty likely to get there especially as it is a day I can do.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Out of town! :(

Depending on the group size, I highly recommend squeezing in a few of Sydney's small bars. For anyone who hasn't been to Sydney in the last 2 or so years (or hasn't looked down an alleyway) Sydney now rivals Melbourne for small bar culture*, whilst also keeping the big bar culture alive too. Best of both worlds! :)

Grandmas, Stitch, Grasshopper, Baxter Inn (this place is FANTASTIC), Eau de Vie (my favourite bar anywhere - now there's one in Melb too) just to name a few. Friendly staff, great drinks, bartenders who know what they're doing, and real atmosphere. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

*I say this as an avid bar hopper who's spent 6 months in Melbourne recently, and is pretty familiar with pretty much all the good Melbourne small bars, to the point where a local the other day who prided herself on knowing all of Melbourne's bars admitted I know the city's nightlife better than her! Melbourne's bars are great, but so are Sydney's. :)

I agree that a different venue should be considered by the group - Square Bar was OK for the last catch up but it kinda had that cheap hotel feel about it - and the discounted champagne was still fairly expensive even with the discount IIRC. I don't think we're all on the bones of our cough, so paying normal retail for drinks shouldn't be too stretch of the imagination.... However if the majority are keen for Square bar, I won't kick up a fuss.

Febs makes a good point re: some of the other smaller bars that are floating around - we should check some out?

Great list of bars there Febs. I'm a fan of Grandmas and you've given me a few to check out in my own time ;). I concur with you and Hayden - the proposed venue is not very inspiring.

Out of those I've only been to Stitch, which I really enjoyed. I'll have to check out the others as well.

As for venue, I'm not really fussed. I've relocated since the last drinks and now live even closer to the city so just about anywhere is convenient for me, but we'd need to be able to organise a table/seating (whether by reservation or not) and somewhere for dinner close by :)

Please count me in, my conference call with Europe has been rescheduled for the week after so I am free that night.
