Sydney Airport now selling Fast track security

I fear this might become like toll roads… where the free* option will be staffed in such a way that it is very slow as a way to increase revenue.

*it not free. You’ve paid for it in the price of your ticket. SYD just wants you to pay twice.
 
You pay for a different entrance and a hopefully a shorter queue.
Exactly like a toll road.

You’ve paid your rego and fuel excise which allows you to use the road network.

But along comes a toll road operator with an express path, but to use it you have to pay again.

You’ve paid for security screening in your ticket price. This is just SYD wanting you to pay for the same thing a second time.

They will now make the general process worse to ‘encourage’ more use of the premium option.

Probably not. The majority of PAX will be oblivious to the existence of Fastrack. I’m not even sure how they’ll market it?

Highly unlikely. The majority of PAX won’t even know about Fastrack. Anyone in F/J already have it, so for now it’ll only be the wannabe DYKWIA crowd who are prepared to pay $20 for not much. 5 mins more of selfies in the DF?
 
Interesting. Airlines are generally on razor thin margins in competition with many others. Airports are a monopoly constantly inventing ways to print more money.
 
What does the image of the sunflower represent? Understand the disabled, airline staff, elderly and pram but the sunflower is new to me.

On another note, I can't imagine airline crew would appreciate being stuck behind a family at security screening.

I still think airlines (especially QF given its the largest home port) should pony up for this, but reading more about this and realising that it only fast-tracks you through security and then spits you out into the same queues for the kiosks as everyone else makes me not really care so much.
So, exactly the same setup as Melbourne T2.
 
Would it really kill SYD and MEL to signpost for APEC too? Which one is it? Airline Crew or Fast Track here?
Never used it, but it used to be sign posted near the crew lanes at SYD.

But why bother departing Oz - eGate would usually be quicker than manual processing? Unless you’re flying in whY and no Fastrack with BP or status?
 
When was the last time anyone went through SYD T1 when it was absolutely chockers, and that a Fast Track through security screening would have been very beneficial?

With e-gates now, Fast Track loses quite a bit of its value there unless you're a poor sod that must find an intervention desk.

Manual is much quicker if there is no queue for manual (often the case for APEC line) and e-gate have more than one or two people in the line.
