Sydney Airport Australia's worst again - ACCC

Would any of these issues be rectified if the airports were government owned? I know that BAC seems to react to issues slowly in Brisbane.

Hmmm... not sure that ownership status really impacts on the longevity of the decision-making process... how long has the Second Sydney Airport-decision debacle been going on for now? Every airport is required to produce a master plan which outlines the short, medium and long term development plans, which are published for public comment and are subject to Government review.

Although I guess from their (the Government's) perspective it's a case of expending government income (via wages), the outcome of which is the reduction of more government income (GST tax revenue). With that in view, I'm possibly not surprised they aren't adequately staffing the function, possibly with a view to discourage it all the more.

I thought about that while waiting on the queue, that it's all done intentionally. From what I noticed it's mainly Asians who buy expensive luxury goods and I'm sure they are willing to wait as long as it needs to get back a significant amount of money.

Going through SYD int' today, I had to queue up 20 minutes for the TRS, deducted from my lounge time... Annoying.
They should have more staff there at busy times.

I have queued for over an hour and still did not get processed even though there were 6-7 staff on duty. Missed claiming the TRS refund and no lounge time either.

Do they charge for the transfer?? $5.70 for the train is appalling

I've been told elsewhere that transfers DOM-INT and vv at PER are now complimentary, which I think is better than SYD or BNE (airline-provided xfers excluded).

I never paid for the bus transfer between terminals at PER but I was always on a QF-QF itinerary.

I think this rating is just about getting the general public on side to throw a heap of poor tax payers money to build a 2nd airport for Sydney in woop woop land. An airport so close to the city with good public transport links and parking is a huge plus for any city and this is what Sydney has. I like an airport which is easy to reach and easy to pass through with no gardens or internal train nonsense like Singapore BKK or KUL where one also seems to drive for miles to reach the city. The main issue with Sydney is runway capacity which causes delays all round. I never understand why extra runway capacity cannot be obtained by building into Botany Bay.

Ok where do I begin?

I think this rating is just about getting the general public on side to throw a heap of poor tax payers money to build a 2nd airport for Sydney in woop woop land

Woop woop land is what folk from the Eastern Suburbs call any suburb west of Leichhardt. Due to bad planning from successive governments this so-called woop woop land is the only location with enough land to design and build a REAL airport that will cater for all PAX and airlines, while being close to a major motorway without the need for 23 sets of traffic lights on approach which the current airport suffers from among other things (I live in the inner-city and cannot wait to drive to the creek and join the rest of world in experiencing a real airport)

An airport so close to the city with good public transport links and parking is a huge plus for any city and this is what Sydney has

A single bus route and a train service that charges four times the normal price of a regular ticket, on old trains with no facilities for luggage and AC that is optional through summer - your definition of good? Parking? Lots of parking yes - for a small fortune. Don't forget Sydney Airport Corporation made $63 million last year from parking alone. PS. Have you ever driven to the DOM terminal on a rainy Monday morning? :D

I like an airport which is easy to reach and easy to pass through with no gardens or internal train nonsense like Singapore BKK or KUL

You mean you like an airport which resembles a 1960's demountable where you can touch the ceiling with your fingertips due to lack of space and toilets are easy to find as there are only two? Hate those free internal trains too - what a joke right? Much rather the $5 bus! Changi is disgusting with all that flora and fauna and those cinema seats and free business terminals and even worse is all that bright clear signage - get out of my way pretty objects - I am trying to get to my smelly taxi so I can sit in traffic for two hours and be $100+ lighter for the experience.

Let's agree to disagree.

It would be good if everyone's expectations of a second Sydney airport are eventually met and the Australian tax payer is not totally just throwing their money at another BS plan or study but I suspect that if built at a large tax payer cost it will be far worse than the current airport with no reliable public transport, expensive taxi rides and a sea of bitumen with no shade for car parking. Why not just take advantage of the current infrastructure and extend into Botany Bay to obtain the required runway capacity?
I do recognise that there are issues with the airport but I like many others find it user friendly, fit for purpose (apart from runway capacity) and it faults do not warrant the silly rating of the worst in Australia

Slowly... that's putting it politely. BAC moves at a geological pace!

Totally agree. Changi is such a dump. I even had to spend $15 to get a taxi to the airport last time I was there... Oh wait, I shared the cab so I actually spent less than $5 :D

I prefer to transit in SIN on the north & southbound flights from BNE & avoid SYD airport.
It's an old dysfunctional disgrace.

Just did an E rewards survey about how I get to MEL airport. Wow it doesn't even give the option of getting their by public transport.
Survey was interested where I parked at MEL.
Needless to say I did not qualify for the remainder of this survey.
