SYD T1 chaos

The last few times for me it was flowing very well (better than the old system) but it’s bloody annoying when there’s a bank of eGates not in use….and ABF don’t actively manage the flow by simply turning on a couple more.

Also, doesn’t help when people try and take small children and babies thru eGates (ignoring the signs to go to manual processing). Or wearing hats or don’t know how to look at the camera etc etc
The problem is that when it comes to design, it shouldn't bottle neck at the smallest problem and thats ehats happening right now - purely because there's not enough space between security and the e-gates. Even an extra 5m or ideally 10m would alleviate so much of that problem.

If they open more eGates when there’s more demand, then there’s plenty of space.

The security screening zones run the entire length of what was eGates / ABF desks and they’ve just been pushed back. Yes, there’s less gap since they don’t need the post eGates “cattle run” for security. Traditionally, it’s been the security lines as the long poll in the tent. But the new scanners tend to speed things up.

It used to irk me arriving at the priority entrance and seeing only 5 of 50(?) eGates operating and non-priority peeps all lining up to the same eGates….

WHat i noticed the other day was that the manual line took up too much space and everybody (including premium/air crew) security got dumped out at the manual area and have to snake back to the bulk of the e-gates. And because the speed isnt able to keep up, the line just kept going and going with a lack of space to line up. Which encroached into the actual security area.
