Mrs VC10 and I are flying to Singapore ex Sydney in May on MH in Business Class using QF points.
We were just notified in a change in departure time from Sydney 50 later than originally scheduled. This leaves a one hour connecting time in KUL, with a terminal change. Does anyone have experience of whether one hour is enough given the terminal change and security etc? We may make it but not sure about our luggage.
Flights are MH250 SYD/KUL 0915/1600 and MH613 KUL/SIN 1700/1815.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The terminal change will just be from the Satellite to the Main terminal which is a short train ride.

KUL airport is like SIN with at gate security rather than separated arrivals and departures

1 hour with a terminal change at KUL, which also does gate security - might be cutting it too fine, IME. However, if MH thinks that you won't make the connection to SIN, I expect that they proactively move you to a later flight to SIN.

The MCT at KUL is 1 hour, which makes the connection a valid one. You could call MH and ask if they could proactively move you to a later service to SIN?

There is usually another daily flight around 7 pm (and you then have time for dinner in the lounge)... Hope the Aerotrain doesn't break down!

These are always how long is a piece of string question.

The only certainty is if SYD-KULflight are on time and Aerotrain is operational, you and luggage will make it to SIN on MH613. The minimum connection time at KLIA is 1 hour which is what you have.

If you missed that there is MH607 which departs 2 hrs later

If very delayed there is the almost red eye MH609 at 2300

I wouldn't worry about it too much if it's on the same ticket. Also the one big difference between gate security and central security is that whilst it takes time, the airline staff are also staring at you going through it so they know exactly where you are. They're not about to close the door on you when you're at gate security.

If its delayed enough that you'll get pushed back then theres plenty more connections. If the concern is whether you can make it to your connection, you can premeptively tell your cabin crew and depending on the situation you might even get whizzed around. Even under normal walking, you should be able to get to the other terminal and gate within 30 minutes.

As a business pax on MH you'll have private limo transfer as well. It's in the same area as the aerotrain. If a train is there, hop on, otherwise walk to the end of the aerotrain platform. . There is usually a receptionist there who will verify your entitlement and let you through the roped off area to the lift/escalator to take you down to the limo transfer lounge. If your time is tight, tell him or her to see if there is a wait to prioritise you for the next limo. They can also contact your gate to let them know you are on your way. As you are on the one ticket, MH will make sure you get to SIN so don't worry. If your SYD-KUL sector is further delayed, remind the cabin crew of your SIN connection. The flight crew will radio ahead if necessary (eg MH flight operations have not already contacted the flight with arrangements). I expect you will not be the only pax connecting to other MH flights so just relax and enjoy your flight. MH flights are mostly based on the hub (KUL) and spoke model.
