I'm looking at cashing in a combination of Velocity and Citi Rewards points to book a one way trip from Sydney to Hong Kong, with a layover in Singapore. Still working out the exact flying times and layover length, but I wanted to confirm what benefits I can get as a Suites passenger on both legs of the journey?

While I'm aware of benefits such as express security and SilverKris lounge access, I want to make sure I milk this experience for all its worth!

I've seen other posts and article talk about the SQ Private Lounge at Changi. Is this included at all, or is it reserved only for the cream of the crop travellers? Also, are there any benefits I can get out Changi Airport itself (other than lounge access)?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think you're talking about The Private Room at SIN which I hear is available to F and R (suites) pax

Once you checked in at airport, staff will provide your boarding pass, and TPR invitation with your name on it, date, flight number, etc.

The Private Room at Changi is the best experience ever! You will never regret it. They provide specially ordered meals to first class passengers.

1 month ago I had lobster noodles ordered in the Private Room, and I will never forget about it!

TPR is very comfortable but I wouldn't say it as the best experience ever (for an airline lounge experience that is). There's no spa ;) no cigar lounge ;) no renting of a Porsche for a few hours ;) let alone the limousine ride from the lounge directly to the plane via the tarmac ;) yes I am dreaming of you Lufthansa First Class Terminal :D

Suites class is basically the same as First class on the ground - nothing really to add over and above. You have access to The Private Room as long as you have an SQ F or R boarding pass (whether paid or on points makes no difference). You don't need an invitation to enter the lounge (showing the boarding pass is fine, although you may want to request a lounge invite if you want it as a souvenir).

The difference is only on board the aircraft, and even then, it's mainly the seating rather than the service.

Suites in flight is awesome, the bed and the service. If travelling with a partner, there is dining with each other with the feeling of a private dining experience, plus the in-flight 'double' bed

In-flight experience also depends upon the load in the R cabin.

Plus you can always get a SQ Teddy.

Definitely worth trading your points for an SQ F flight. suites is nicer than the regular F but they are both great. Remember to book the cook too!

Thanks for all the tips everyone - I'm extremely excited at the idea of a Suites trip, even for a relatively short trip from Sydney to Singapore!

What's this about booking a cook? Can you order food well in advance of the flight?

SQ have a menu from which you can pre-order your meals. Much wider choice than what they have onboard.

Personally I used to be excited by BTC. Now I just enjoy the on board menu and make a choice from those 2-3 meals. My theory is that becuase they are making lots of those, they will be fresher.

Just wondering how many SQ points you needed to do suites SYD-SIN-HKG? I have around 300K VA points and no SQ points, but a quick trip to Honkers in late Oct seems like a good idea, but I have never ever used VA or SQ points before and would appreciate any newbie tips.

SQ award chart is here: https://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/SQMI_OneWayAwardCharts.pdf

15% off those for booking on line.

Dummy bookings are easy on the SQ site (nothing like trying to do it on QF). That will also give you the availability of saver awards and the price (including 15% discount).

Thanks MEL_T, a few options there. I'll have to try to figure out what is a best use of my points.

Just thinking about the SYD - SIN - HKG, if I wanted a stop over for a few days in SIN is that more points? Do I search for SYD-SIN and then SIN HKG?

I think if you know all the flights you want are available, you can call up and do it over the phone, pay $100 for the SIN stopover and still get the 15% discount as you can't factor in stopover online. Others here will be able to confirm.

points remain the same. Saver award ticket , you can have ONE free stop over. any additional stop over cost $100 SGD I think.
