Hi All,

I'm booking a J class award trip from SYD to PER for myself, my wife and my daughter who will be 2 and a half. There appears to be a number of flights we could choose at present. We're not travelling until July. Question is, does anyone have any experience travelling with a younger person in J? Is there a particular flight we should choose? Is the old config better or the new one and is there a way to tell when booking which config you'll get? Obviously wouldn't want the little one on her own in a 1-2-1 config but would also like to make sure we make the most of the experience.

Any help, advice and opinions greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance all!

Nothing wrong with picking a flight with the refurbed J. if you do end up on a refurb then make sure you pick 1A, 2E and 2F so you are all in the same 'row' or 2A with 3E and so on.

Go in the morning. The breakfast in Syd bus lounge is better than lunch imo.

The gentleman and I just did a long weekend in Perth with our 2 year old little man, flying MEL-PER. We flew with VA J so I can't provide any input on QF seating. We flew both there and back in the morning, 9.15 there and 9.45 return. The 3 hour time difference was tough, going early helped us keep some semblance of routine, both in Perth and when we got back. Flying later in the day would have made things a lot harder for us.

Thanks Guys, morning seems to be the consensus here. Distinct lack of wine in the morning though. LadyC, any issues on the flight with the little one? I'm a little concerned that the seat might be too big for her!

My little man sat on my lap for take off and landing. The flight wasn't very relaxing for me as i spent most of the time with him, watching either the iPad or in flight entertainment, reading, eating etc. He slept for 1 hour on the way over. My son has worn head phones before and has his own little set. If your daughter hasn't worn then before, it might be an idea to get her used to it. Being able to watch the Wiggles might make the flight go more smoothly!

Thanks, we've done plenty of flights with her, including 2 back to the UK so I'm hoping she'll be OK but this is the first flight longer than an hour or so that she'll have her own seat. At least there'll be a bit more room if she does want to share!

I'd suggest flight timing to suit her routine, as best possible. If she can sit up ok, then the seat should be fine. Plenty of room for toys and all that stuff.

Thanks Medhead, that's what I was thinking. Currently looking at at 16.50 departure, meaning she'll have some dinner, bit of a wander, some wiggles and some playtime and then hopefully nod off towards the end of the flight so I can enjoy a vino or three. That along with lunch and a few vinos before hand in the J lounge and I'm hoping it will be a pleasant flight.

Thanks Mr_Orange. Just to check, would this seat selection see us lining up? Capture.JPG
