SYD looking for people to trial iPhone application

Received on email today from SYD, looking for people travelling from the International Terminal between Sept 20 and Oct 1 to test a new iPhone application they are developing.

There's a nice carrot they're offering any participants, more details and info below.

Dear thewinchester,

Are you an iPhone user travelling overseas between Monday 20th September and Friday 1st October 2010, departing from Sydney International Airport?

If so, would you be interested in participating in the trial of the new Sydney Airport iPhone application?

Sydney Airport is developing an iPhone application, designed to deliver up-to-date travel information and useful tools to iPhone users departing from Sydney International Airport and we are looking for travellers to help us test the prototype.

The iPhone application trial will take approximately 30 mins to complete and you will receive a $100 gift voucher as a thank you from us for your time.

If you are interested in taking part in the trial, you will need to meet the following requirements:

• An iPhone user with your own iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 with the latest operating system – OS4
• Be travelling overseas between Monday 20th September and Friday 1st October, departing from Sydney International Airport
• Be willing to arrive at Sydney International Airport at least ½ hour earlier to participate in the iPhone trial

What is the cheapest tix to go overseas and back during that period?! May need to buy cheap booze on top of $100 voucher to make it up :mrgreen:

How about flying to MEL through one of the various JQ flights available?

I am at SYD T1 on the 1st. Perhaps I should pretend I'm an apple lover (lol) to sign up to the trial

I'm departing T1 twice in that period and the first flight cost <$100 so lucky me I guess. Will be genuinely interested if they can put together a really good application and not just driving you to buy stuff at the retail outlets. Given it is terminal or at least airport specific they can't just be satisfied with features that are found in every generic travel app.

If they get back to me I'll be happy to pass on any tidbits I find out presuming there's no NDA. Obviously not everyone is an iPhone user but it is good to see them spend money on something that could be quite useful, frequent traveller or otherwise.

Apple patented an idea some time ago for location driven apps. Basically you download the app either ahead of time (and it hides) or it automatically pops up when you are in a specific location (imagine time savings going to various malls and having layouts on your iPhone to save searching for things).

I hope this is a precursor to that sort of thing...
