SYD - LHR with a three year old.

OK you very smart bunch of people:

Taking the wife and little guy (he will be three by the time we travel) to London/Tuscany in September. My wife wont let me go on a separate flight and is insisting that we all fly together for some reason......

I plan to do 24hr ish stopover to break up the trip and make it easier on the child (and me). Was looking at SIN/HKG as options.

Any other suggestions/tips you could provide as to stopovers and price conscious options or I am being too precious about flying with a three year old?
 
We did London last year with our 2 year old. No issues.. Everyone was very accommodating. You only have to get used to carrying the pram up / down stairs when using the tube.

P.s. We travelled separately, me on qf f and wife & son in sq j.
 
Towards the end of September I have been able to find flights on the matrix with 28 and 30 hr stopovers in SIN in each direction, for $1766 ish each, this is into and out of London. If you leave from outside the UK then it will be cheaper.
