Hi all

Planning a trip to the US for next year. Plenty of good deals to LA floating around at the moment, wondering what peoples thoughts are on whether to fly QF or VA across the pacific?

One thing that turns me off VA is the dismal earn rate for velocity in the cheaper fare classes, but I have heard that their hard and soft products are very good. I have flown QF long haul plenty of times so know what to expect there.

If all other things (eg price) are equal, would you choose QF or VA??

I'm pretty loyal to QF, so I'd choose QF for the status credits earnt (my velocity is no longer active; have only flown with DJ twice in 5 years).
If I weren't so loyal to QF, I'd go with VA. I've heard good things about their IFE and their hard product is newer than that of QF for most trans-pac flights, esp while the A380 isn't flying trans-pac.

I haven't flown QF to the USA so can't speak on them, but I can't say enough good things about VA. Their economy hard product is quite comfortable, and the IFE is INSANE.

You are right though, the economy earn rates are appalling. Same with VS and, to an extent, VX, on Velocity. It's for this reason that I'd only fly EY to Europe and the like if I were crediting to Velocity. 1 point and SC per mile is too good to pass up.
