Has anyone here done a SYD-JFK Friday and returned on the sunday evening flight arrving Sydney on Tuesday am?

Whats the jetlag like after arrival on Tuesday am?

When do I need to leave Southern Central Park area to catch the 1845hr QF18

(Flying QF 11/QF 18 in J)

I would leave 3-3.5 hours or say 1500 if catching a cab.

Certainly a quick turnaround. Are you a courier ?

Nah just going on a conference but want to be back on Tuesday am

Conference officially finishes 1400 so I think it should be good for a 1845 departure on the QF18.

any views about degree of jetlag from quick turnaround?

I don't think there's any hard and fast answer to that. I did a two-day turn around in AU-HKG-SFO a few months ago (with 80 year old mother in tow)...not a jot of jet lag for either of us in either direction.

I think the arrival into JFK is pretty good. I'd be sleeping a good 8-9 hours on the QF11, with a short nap for an hour or two on the QF18.... allowing a few hours to have dinner etc and go to bed normal time in NY.

I have probably flown from Perth to Los Angeles close to 100 times over the past 36 years of business which is about the same distance as Sydney to NYC. My shortest visit would have been 4 days as I allow 24 hours to get over the flight from arriving plus the 2 or 3 days of the conference. I tend to go to the pool to iron out kinks in my body on arrival at the destination
Yes allow 3.5 hours to make it to your NYC flight and check that it is running on time. In recent times QF11 and 12 as well as QF 93 and 94 have been experiencing delays due to mechanical issues so be aware of this.
Jet lag is more likely on your return to Australia as your time clock in your brain could be messed up. Have you ever experienced jet lag? I do not use Melatonin and instead get out in the sunshine on arrival (if there is any).
For such a short trip I would not drink much alcohol and plenty of water and I would use Vicks First Defence up my nose to avoid catching any bugs on the plane. I get it in London as it is not sold in Australia nor USA.
Now I would leave a day or two earlier.
