Just waiting to board QF5 and we were stopped boarding as fire engines raced down the runway towards Qantas Drive following an Air Canada flight that just landed.

No idea what has happened but pulled up next to QF5 at gate 24 with fireman looking at the wheels. ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1376015715.721113.jpgImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1376015743.115607.jpg

Burst tyre (centre one)??

Burst tyre (centre one)??

Maybe not even that! The fireys left after 3mins of walking around tyre kicking...

Very dramatic however to see three fire engines barreling down the runway in pursuit of a landing aircraft!

It was an onboard medical emergency that caused the aircraft to return. Some hot brakes followed the landing. 1 vehicle and crew remained on scene to assist with the passenger.

Wonder if the a/c had time to dump fuel? Depends how long into the flight it was prior to turning back.

The aircraft performed an overweight landing and due to the weight of the aircraft harder auto braking is required and thus to avoid fires from the gear fire tenders are called to monitor the main wheel bogeys.
