As the title suggests, the ILS will be missing in action while awaiting an upgrade over the next month. Expect delays...

How do the airlines differ? According to SMH:

Qantas was forced to cancel four flights into Sydney on Friday and three flights out, and also reported multiple delays.
A spokesman for Virgin Australia said the airline was forced to cancel 17 flights...
A Jetstar spokesman said 17 flights into and out of Sydney were cancelled on Friday.

Interesting difference between the airlines,

SMH...

Its only one ILS on 16R thats actually been out of service since the start of the week due back mid month, and it had little to do with system delays yesterday.

From my understanding, it is the combination of the unavailability of the ILS on 16R and the adverse weather which caused the delays on Friday.

In any case you'd want to have several hours in SYD if you had an international flight to allow for delays into SYD.

QF were announcing due the ILS upgrades there will be continued delays all month - as was Air Services Australia, 'if' the weather becomes unfortunate which it was last Friday.

I assume the month-long upgrade is hardware-related and not software-related?

Software did not exist when ILSs were designed, it was all hard!
