Hi all, just a quick bit of hopefully interesting info regarding the wonderful big analog SYD QF FCL flight info board. It wasn’t working this morning (4 Jan), when I asked at the front desk why I was informed that this was caused by children sticking their fingers in the panels as they flip (and this happens very often!) and that it costs around $1000 for the technician to come out and fix it again! 😳. Fortunately there is also the smaller FID at the southern end of the lounge for updates and gate info.
Happy new year!

Send bill for the repair to the parents of the child. A properly supervised child wouldn't be able to stick their fingers in the board.
Agreed. No need to ban all kids. Plus kids surely have to be supervised anyway given all the self serve booze?

Why on earth do the f lounges stick with these ancient displays? They were the latest in hi-tech 40 or so years ago but now they belong in the scrapyard. A proper modern video display would be far more reliable and display more useful information.

That's kind of the whole point - it's retro. They aren't actually 40 years old. Most people love it.

I might be imagining it but don't they also have normal displays elsewhere in the lounge?

Hard disagree with this one sorry. These are arguably the coolest display screens of any airport... I'd love one at home 😬

What are you even doing on this forum if you don't love these displays!

Clearly we should also get rid of all these fancypants "jet planes" and fly everyone round in DC-3s.

No, the correct analogy would be a brand new aircraft that costs much more money, made to look and function like a DC-3.

In the way people spend many thousands on a Rolex instead of buying an Apple Watch.

There is a 2nd retro (split flap) display at the far end but I don't believe there are any other displays.

There are other split flaps around the world - Paris Gare du Nord train station has one - (last time I was there)

......

Some here may have had a split flap bedside radio clock. Now considered vintage though not antique

Can't be that common an occurrence or they would already have installed a screen, or have a spare tv ready to plugin
