I'm thinking of taking the SYD-CNS flight from the SYD international airport.

It's a domestic flight leaving at 8:00am...

Just a few questions:
1. Will I be able to gain access to the Flounge with a WP card? Is there much to experience at 5am in the morning? Or am I just wasting time?
2. Do I need to bring my passport?
3. Are you still allowed to bring 2 cabin bags less than 7kg travelling economy? Or do you have to meet the international requirement of 1 bag < 7kg?

thanks

(1) Yes.
(2) If you are not an Australian, then a passport is probably the only ID acceptable. If an Australian citizen a Driving licence or an APEC card will suffice
(3) International rules apply since it is an international flight iirc

Check-in opens around 5am, but immigration doesn't open until ~ 5:45am. Lounge will be open when you get to it and your WP card will give you access.

Breakfast will be available in lounge. Quite a nice breakfast menu. Freshly cooked when you order. The spa will be closed. Rest of the F lounge will be open, and alcohol is available if you feel like a glass of the bubbles. I liked their coffee.

Do you mean if you have an Australian DL that suffices? How does anyone know whether a person is an Australian citizen/resident if that person presents an Australian DL?

Yep. If you have an Australian Driving licence, that will suffice, no need to be a citizen, just a resident will do.

Is it really worth getting up at 5am to checkin at 5.30am just to experience the SYD F lounge??

Also it would mean checking in my bags, as only allowed one, 7kg hand carry... hmmmm

If I was travelling alone I might do it... just to check out the F lounge... Not sure if my wife would appreciate the early wake up call.

The other option is to take a later domestic flight at a more civilised time and be enjoying buffet breakfast in the hotel!:p

Don't forget the liquid rules applying to International flights....

Is it worth it? Hmmm. That's a choice you've gotta make... The lounge will be there next time you travel :D

I have taken QF167 a number of times to CNS and would happily take it next time. Get to airport at around 7:15 for the 8 departure , happily knowing in advance that I have an exit seat thanks to being able to pre select as a Platinum member.

Depends. If you have nothing else to do at that time of the morning then it is worth it.

Most mornings, sleep sounds like a really good option at 5:30am :!:

I had a lie in this morning to 6AM - normally up at 5AM and making the tea by 5:10!

Must admit I was up at 5:30am and on the road at just after 6:00am as we still have road closures from floods in our area. Normal 22klm drive to work is currently 70klm through kangaroo territory.

You should have asked if you could take the "company vehicle" home. No problems getting through the floods then ;) .

I sleep in almost everyday. :p Occassionally I like to see what it is like to wake up early in the morning so play golf most weekends or organise an F lounge run when not playing golf. ;)

I'm doing that tomorrow! We need to base out of East Sale RAAF each night at the moment to maintain our night medevac capability.

Latest is the road may not open until Friday when we are expecting more heavy rain so who knows what after that.

I have not been challenged on international services/domestic segments, when walking on with my wheelie bag & small sized personal back pack, on recent QF flights... regardless of their written policy. YMMV

I have been in MEL a couple of times recently, weighed the bag and all, anyway then they asked to see my boarding pass, saw i had status and said i guess thats ok then :)
And i had 12-13kg (but i could have split in 2 bags, had one inside the other, 2 laptops etc)

My last two times outbound through MEL have been around 8pm, heading for QF29 late night departure. At that time of the evening the passport control area is empty and not even a bag weigher in sight ;) .

Have only had my carry-on weighed once out of Melbourne, and that was a few years ago. Even then it weighed over 10kg, but the bag weigher didn't really car. Just the Samsonite roll-aboard, laptop and power supply weigh close to 7 kg, so by the time you add documents, books, snacks, ipod, etc, the weight quickly adds up.

I now tend to just take my backpack with laptop as carry-on and check the samsonite with other luggage.
