Hi team,

I'm flying SYD-PER this evening, if I take my bag throughto the QP have a shower and put on fresh clothes for the flight is there somewhere I can check my bag in airside? Or do I need to exit and go to the regular bag drop?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Have not seen the SYD bag drop inside the domestic zone work anymore.
Years ago, there used to be openable chutes by some of the gates, around gates 3/4/5/6 (when the smaller aircrafts used by QFlink used to go, from gate 1), this was a very long time ago now.
Now they don't seem to use those chutes anymore.
Not sure what happens with oversized bags these days, (I do realise your case is different, ie you are not carrying an oversized bag).
You would have to go out, and come back in.
You can always ask the service desk, out near gate 12/13/14, around that circular pier where the bigger planes (A330) go out from.
I don't hold much hope for you.

So how was it Mickc32?
Did you try it out to see if they can put your bag direct from gate to plane hold without going out into open area at SYD T3?
Edit: Can see the reason for lapse in reply, just had a look at flightaware, if OP is on QF571, he/she is very late departing SYD tonight.
3 hours late.

I just went HLO. I was surprised that I was within the limits and with the 3hr delay I wanted to be able to take up any flight options in case there was even more issues.

The lounge team (who were really good this time) seemed to think I would need to go back landside to check my bag. They weren'y 100% but I didn't push it.

Some gates in SYD domestic have the ability to gate check bags but this isn't available at all gates. It's too risky given not every gate has the capability.

There's clearly something we're all missing, however why you would want to check hand luggage that is allowed to be brought through security?

There are no LAG rules in domestic as you know.

Will they open the chute these days though.
Esp post Sept11, and some smaller airports not having full metal risk items screening.
They say to upgrade smaller SA airports to full xray facility screening will cost millions.

It *can* be done at the gate as a limited release item- but if you have the time and ability, go landside. It's a last resort to gate check items.

Only a couple of the gates can use the chutes, otherwise it's collected via the aerobridge. Dash 8's still use Gate 1.

You'd be surprised at how many airports in Aus are still unscreened, including one of the new QLink destinations, Orange.

Given time all those airports will have to be upgraded screening wise.
Maybe one day we will go the TSA way, ie show id even with OLCI...
OT thought it seems the govt has a way of knowing when bikies use false names to fly, probably one day unscreened bags will never fly.

Sometimes I feel that the big roll a board is a pain in the a$$, that's all. Generally I fly HLO but I was pretty sure my main bag would be over weight after collecting stuff for work so was prepared to check it. I was just under so carried it on.

They seem to manage when they need to check-in cabin baggage when there is too much of it... at any gate.
