Hi all,

That glorious day has finally come when I'm about to experience suites! well in about 11 months from now to be more exact. I'll be travelling with my wife for whom I redeemed a ticket with my KF account. My ticket was redeemed by my good friend with his KF account (not travelling with us)

Given that that he is redeeming a ticket in someone else's name, will it seem at all fishy to SQ? Reason I ask is that I've read reports of pax being quizzed @ checkin of the nature of the award ticket. Who it was redeemed by? Do you know that you're on an award ticket? etc.. I believe this was to the curb the business of points brokers. Of course all this could be urban myth as I haven't heard any first hand stories.

I'm a little concerned as the last thing i want to be is to be stuck in NRT-SIN-MEL.

Any thoughts on the matter much appreciated :)

I redeem about 2 roundtrip flights a year for family (same surname) and the occasional friend (not travelling with me) on SQ. SQ have some restrictions on redemption nominee updates so I would say they are somewhat less susceptible to point brokers. Never had any issues, although it helps if you pay the taxes etc with your credit card and your mate's points so I would defn recommend doing that in future. You could always bring a copy of the credit card used to pay for the booking (MH once requested that on a similar redemption situation a few years back but never asked to see it at checkin).

Thanks for that. Lucky I did pay for those taxes with my own cc ! :) I think your advice is sound and I will bring that paperwork just in case. Can't wait to see what all the fuss is about this magical Krug.. ;)

Yes you get to try Krug, Dom Perignon, icy vodka with the caviar then the smooth red with your main course.
I think you could try PH rare in TPR before you board in Singapore. The champagne in that lounge can change. Typically we are flying around 9 am from Singapore so I usually just go iced water before we board.
Krug and Dom tend to cost $160 to $200 a bottle in Australia so that is about 4 times the cost of Moët.
It is lovely to try something different and special.

get the 5 redemption nominees so should all be fine. i presume there is still a clause in the T&C's that prohibit the sale/exchange of points so perhaps mention it was a gift from the friend if quizzed. haven't been in that situation myself tbh.

As a nominee should be fine BUT they sometimes ask to see the credit card that the taxes were paid with.

My daughter went to check in in Accra Ghana and they were refusing to let her board till I provided a copy of the credit card used to book.

I was also asked once for the credit card used to book for a flight that I had redeemed for myself .

You paid the taxes and charges, and so just have that card with you.

I have been asked countless times over the journey to present the CC used for pmt rdpts. IIRC it is one of SQ's purchase Ts &Cs for for all flts that CC used for pmt may be required to be sighted at checkin - seldom enforced but I do think it is there - or was.

Edit : I knew it was there somewhere - How is the '10 DM drinking boomy?[/QUOTE]"]SQ FAQs

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The issue is if you have had to have card reissued, so different number or have cancelled the account.

On this very point - I am surprised if every pax does not carry the exact card that was charged for either comm or rdpt tix. I would have thought that post 9/11 it would be part of every carriers Ts & Cs. I only ever use one of 2 cards to purchase all tix - Westpac KF Amex for all Oz dep SQ flts as it earns 2 x std pt earn and Prestige for all others - and both those cards I carry 365.

I have thought about this before. I have a high cc turnover and would be hard pressed to remember which card was used. Hope they never ask me. If it was an AMEX which has high o/s cc charges, I prob would never carry it o/s - plenty of M/C and Visas for that. I'd better chk the T&Cs.

I kinda thought that as most of my redmpts are nearly 12 months in advance, it all would have been 'settled' by then.

I always take note as I will often rely on the Amex CC Travel Insurance from a bank issued Amex as the TI is easy to activate. These cards to be "churners". As such I might have two Amex's playing tag to cover me as my flights are booked often almost a year out, and so the card used to book the flight might be gone by date of travel I will insure that I have one of my new Amexes activated with the appropriate spend.

Despite the flight being normally a minor cost if cancelled by myself as points are normally refunded with either only a small $ or points cost I will normally pau with the Amex to activate the TI and have cancellation coverage.

I have been queried on redemptions made that far out.

Okay, thank you for that. I'd better make a note of which card do I use and even if it is cancelled I shan't cut it up. I don't use credit card travel insurance.

I never take amex on holiday. Only citibank debit card + 28Degree + BW platinum. And soon anz travel adventures :)

I have only once been asked for my CC, and unfortunately my CC had expired and I had a new one at that time. I think I had to call Amex to get the last 4 digits (or maybe it was CCV - they won't give out CCV over the phone?) and give that to the check in counter assistant.
