In Feb, we are travelling Syd-Sfo on Qf73. I have a J ticket and my +1 has a Y ticket:shock:

I was hoping to swap seats with her after boarding (informing the IFS / FA of course) to gain some brownie pts:mrgreen:. I rang up the QF premium desk today to get some reasonable seats allocated for her as she's a NB (obviously, I now have a vested interest in this;)), and during the course of my conversation, mentioned my plan. The very nice QF CSA informed me that it was no longer possible to swap seats between different classess for security reasons on QF:shock:. As she was so nice, I didn't have the heart to debate the point. Is she correct?

Only recently, from Yvr to Lax, we swappped seats in different cabins on Alaska Air;the female first officer, overhearing my discussion with the flight attendant, commented on "how sweet" I was:oops:....so not sure about this security blurb I was told today.

What have been others' experience?

Shrek and I have done this on multiple occasions never any problem. Each of us will fly a sector eg. SYD-SIN, SIN -LHR no problems on QF, BA EK.

That's what I thought....thanks for confirming!

It will be very hard (for me) tho swapping a BP for 1A for a BP for 51C on a 747:!::shock::shock::shock:

Someone, innocently enough, asked the same question a few months ago on FT and was given a severe kicking by the locals.
AFF'ers are so much more accommodating.:)

Indeed we are (in this case at least). :) I cannot see why the seat swap would be an issue, but of course I am not QF staff.

And that is why I usually lurk on FT but post on here ;)
+1 to that

There's probably some issues with a mid flight swap as opposed to "before takeoff". I dont know if there's a policy, but if all and sundry cottoned on to the idea of swapping mid flight, it could be a logisitic nighmare on board, and yes, be a security issue. There's also some porduct devaluation if you can buy a 1+1 and mid flight swap routinely.

I'm sure if you approach the CSM politely, and ask them, be prepared for a very rare no, but they'll almost certainly say yes.

Yup....4 class configuration sold as 3 class; my chosen seat 24B was moved to 2A automatically:mrgreen:...I then moved it to 1A but at present am wondering as to where I would store my carry on...When are you flying in Feb?
QF 74 SFO-SYD F Class eliminated? - FlyerTalk Forums

PS: the only seat swap would be at the beginning of the flight, not mid flight (which really is not appropraite in my opinion), and we will use the inseat phone to talk to each other, if we have to:mrgreen:

Thanks for this , I'm flying on 25th and have now moved myself to 1A. QF hadn't moved me but I always ask for and are allocated 16A / K by seating and I already had 16A.
Storage depends on crew and loads, technically speaking they are not supposed to let you store bags under ottoman but the last time I flew F in 1K the aircraft was full and was told by CSM to put under ottoman. Another F flight my bags were put in wardrobe at front.

Flights to the US are a little different given the secure flight and APIS rules in place now, I believe they were changed recently to mandate that final manifest information passed through APIS and vetted by secure flight match actual seating of passengers and that no variations or changes are allowed. Someone with more knowledge of the rules and procedures will be able to provide more detail, I believe its in the same area as no public loitering or gathering in groups etc.

...but markis10, we did such a swap last month under the nose of the first officer (see above); I'm sure she would be aware of all the security rules about flying to the US, wouldn't she?

From memory there was a change eff Nov 1, I am sure someone will provide further info, my experience with QF premium is they know their stuff, whether the same thing occurs on-board is another story !

Fair enough...worse case scenario is that I stay in 1A:mrgreen::oops:....and deal with +1 later:shock::p

To be fair to FT, the thread mentioned was NOT only discussing a simple swap BP's/swap-seats-on-boarding type exchange...

I doubt if many here would support some of the practices mentioned/proposed in that discussion...
