It seems that several people in the office, including myself, just got upgraded to Gold...
We’ve got a treat for you - a free upgrade to Velocity Gold! Given you came so close to making it on your own, we wanted to say thanks so much for your ongoing commitment to the Virgin Blue Group, we really love having you around.
Nice! :D Though strangely I wasn't even close to retaining Silver.

I just got that email as well and I've never flown VB using my velocity number :)

(I joined the day the program was launched but basically forgot about it after that)

Just got my surprise too.

velocityrewards.com.au seems to be overloaded right now, so I'm picking a bit of a mix-up!

I guess the retraction email will be following shortly.

Yeah, I got this too... weird! I'm (probably) going to make Gold on Qantas this year, but not even close to Silver yet, and they would have no way to know that. The only reason I can think of that they would send this to me is because I've got QC and they instead want me to fly with them.

I've made one Virgin flight this year, SYD-MEL, none booked for the rest of the year.

Soooooo weird...

edit: haha this is hysterical!

I got the same email... Only did 2 trips ever with DJ - 1 last year, 1 this year on the day of the big Sydney dust storm. I also have 1 trip coming, but that's not till Feb next year...

I'm with Steve, I'm expecting a 'Sorry! We've screwed up!' email some time next week...

P.S. The only thing I can think of apart from it being a screw-up is that they know I'm a WP with QFF... If this is because of me being a WP, perhaps they should re-word the email. I'm not even close to silver, let alone gold...

I guess giving non-flyer Gold is a cheap promotion, at most it is the price of a few tags. I have been wanting to try the SYD-CBR flight on one of their jets.

LOL I got the email too! The only flights I credited to DJ weren't even DJ - 2 MH domestic flights! I do have a round trip to CBR booked on DJ though. But still, hardly "so close to making it on your own." Not that I'm complaining.

If this isn't a mistake, I might be tempted to swing some flights over to DJ/VA after achieving QFF PG. :)

As an update, I was finally able to login to my very active DJ account (last flight December 2006) and my status is still Red so I say this email was sent out in error and has no sunstance though I would be happy to be proven wrong.

The amount of people currently viewing this thread is quite telling.

I came on here to spruik my email that came through a few minutes ago and looks like I'm not the only one.

I'm guessing a mistake, given I last flew DJ in December 2006 and I have accumulated a grand total of 894 points... ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

yup, i got it too... lol

and i was almost considering redirecting some domestic flights to DJ to try out the lounge. oh well, guess its a big screw up

I did have a moment of belief as I flew TT with Pacfic Blue on Wednesday and thought that perhaps, just perhaps ...

I guess the retraction email will be following shortly.

Well it does sound too good to be true. A retraction is going to be "awkward" to say the least.

For a few minutes at least I was thinking the next 12 months I'd be flying VB over QF a lot more! ummmm free lounge :)

lol the website for velocity rewards is in total meltdown, it must have gone out to every member. how ridiculous

If this is a mistake, I'm guessing they may give each one of us a one-time pass for a taste...? I'm saving the email they sent just for a laugh.

I'm trying to get to the DJ site, it's very slow, and crashes often... Maybe everyone's been getting this email... :)
