Super Moon Flight

Managed to get 2 tickets in Premium Economy - kept refreshing the page every few seconds until 12.

Nice one!

I was stuck in a meeting so I’ll just settle for the view from Bondi with my camera and tripod and hope it doesn’t get cloudy!

PS. I wonder how the target P1 list was chosen? Customers from previous scenic flights?

I got the email and I have done a few of the novelty flights also booked via P1 presale. But I know at least one fellow P1 who hasn’t done any and received the email too.

I suspect this is going to be a complete PR disaster...

If there was a P1 pre-sale then it looks as if a lot of the seats have been snapped up.

Looking at QF1250 on 26/5/21 from SYD to ZZF reveals the following:

If the occupied seats are presales then there are just 55 seats remaining for everyone else at midday tomorrow (7 in J, 10 in PE and 38 in Y).
yes - a total disappointment. I jumped on at the strike of 12, and there was barely anything left. There was just one window seat in Y left, second last row. But by the time I had got to checkout, my seats were bumped. I gave up...

Probably even less seats by then.

Im not even going to attempt this one, as a lowly gold have no chance (even less since Im in a meeting at the time it opens up).

On reflection, I think the Southern Lights flights would offer something more unique.
as a lowley platinum i had no chance, despite jumping on at the strike of 12...

My experience too, I jumped on at the stroke of 12, selected an excellent window seat in Y and then went to the payment page ... error. No can do. When I went back it still had my booking and my seat but refused to take my money as it was sold to someone else in the xx seconds that I was finalising my booking.

When selecting my seat there were around 8 window seats left in Y so I would be able to snag one.

Not worried about it though, as it is forecast to be no rain in a couple of weeks where I am which should mean fairly clear skies. And it saved me having to book flights to SYD and overnight accommodation. So I will sit in my doona on my veranda facing east watching the rise and eclipse and enjoying wine and nibblies and save myself much $$$

Hmmm....Monday AFF newsletter is the first I've even heard about this, not that the moon will be that awesome to look at. But there's obviously a market for this type of experience. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often and in centre's other than just Sydney all the time. Too expensive to get return flights to Sydney, accommodation and all the ancillary costs to look at something that will be visible anyway, and is not observably different to normal moons.

There is presently one seat showing available in Premium Economy $899 for the Supermoon flight with 22A available to be assigned...use this booking link and you should be able to book it if it's still there...

I just had a look and could choose 1 of 4 premium economy seats. I wonder if as a Points Club member, I’d get double status credits if I booked today.

Looks like there are still one or two seats left albeit not window seats - judging by the seat map and that the booking page is still up.

Doing a search however says there are no flights?Screen Shot 2021-05-24 at 9.14.08 am.png

The moon is 384,400 km away. QF 1250 is currently at 9,450m.
Essentially you are sitting on an aircraft where, at most, 13% of pax can have a window seat and can potentially see the moon at any given time, and you are 0.00003 % closer to it than the rest of us sitting in the backyard who, weather permitting, can see the whole thing for the entire duration.
I'm not sure why you would do it.
But I hope you are enjoying it.

They seemed to have filed a flight plan out over the water, but are now heading inland.

Also that dreamliner got a trip to Turkey recently... unfair :p , I do hope they gave it a good clean.

Currently sitting 10hrs drive from Sydney in a field that I'm sure Wolf Creek was filmed in and weird noises coming from the bush around us and the moon show is happening. Hope the flight pax are enjoying their flight.

Some manoeuvring to the west of the city and now out over the ocean at 43000ft... looks like fun!

I really like that QF are doing these types of flights. I hope they continue into the future.

OK so here are some pictures and thoughts from last night. I did see the supermoon 3 times with my own eyes but couldn't get any photos even of the stars let alone of the supermoon. And I tried both with my regular iPhone Camera plus a couple of apps that were meant to be for star gazing. But still had a good time.

Back to the beginning and the J lounge was cut off just for us - all other lounge worthy pax got sent to the QP.

We were fed there including salt and pepper squid, the pavlova in a glass and chicken schnitzel sandwiches.

We had a welcome speech from Adam Spencer who had some words to say. The ones that stuck with me the most is when he said he couldn't be calling us ladies and gentlemen but "Lunartics and Aerosexuals".

Then he had a chat with Alex Passerini (our captain) followed by Larry Spencer & Vanessa Moss from the CSIRO. This was followed by a performance from Hugh Sheridan - he sung Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To the Moon.
