Although there is no guarantee of an upgrade, being a platinum member of Accor would increase chances if you stay at the specified brand of hotels.

Question is, what is the average cheapest price you could get into a suite for in either London, Hong Kong or USA per night?
would it be a case of booking the cheapest room and then hoping for an upgrade?

I am sitting at 4/5 upgrades. Pretty good actually. I asked at the desk for 1 of them. I didn't as nor care about an upgrade at the one I didn't get as I had the room I wanted already. http://www.twitvid.com/1HX5E
I got an upgrade after paying $66 a night firing the50% off sale and was upgraded to a $190 a night room.
Oh I always email the hotel about a week after booking confirming non smoking and requesting an upgrade is avail. I have a confirmed upgrade via email at my next hotel in xi'an.
So phooey to those who dis plat level as worthless and common. It is great for me.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply.
The hotel looks good. Whereabouts was it?

I'm interested to know whether 2 bedroom suites are available in any of the Accor rooms.

5/6 for upgrades
No idea re double suites. you would have to look at the hotels/contact them.
good luck

Good work Tazear, stayed at the Sofitel Melbourne at all? Staying in a few weeks and wondering if I should email the week before and request upgrade/late checkout.

2/2 at Sofitel Heathrow - paid for the most basic room (no specials on at the time) and received the upgrade each time - plus free drinks for 2 at the bar. Was mightily impressed with the hotel - and the Restaurant had some of the best French food outside of Paris!

'Upgrade'' received from cheapest rate I could book at Novotel Auckland Airport to 'Executive Floor'. Top two floors were executive floors...not really sure if there were any other room differences, I doubt it.

Aside from a silver plaques beside the top two floor buttons in the lifts, they do have better in room amenities. Aside from that they seem the same as those on the lower floors.

Had my stay at Sofitel Melbourne last night. Booked cheapest room and recieved the following:

Upgrade to next room category
2 Free drinks at the bar
Welcome note
Bottle of champagne
4pm late-checkout.

Was very impressed with service and benefits and will defiantly be choosing the Sofitel for future stays.

0/1 at the Grand Mercury Ginza Oriental Shenzehn.
Was on a cheapish Rmb600 rate (A$100) rate.
Booked thru Accor hotels with note for upgrade.

Result. No upgrade, no exec floor, no breakfast, level 10 (of 5-25) and a Rmb30 (A$5) food voucher!! Did push and get 3pm late checkout but key was deactivated at 220pm
And to make it worse was told at checkin that since CNY all rates under Rmb700 earn no points.

Now given I booked through Accor and this was not made clear on website it will be challenged.

Accor raises its ugly head again as been the most worthless program.

I know some of you have done well, but I'll stick with my line above.

It's made quite clear: A|Club Membership Levels - A|Club

Mercures only get a points bonus.

Accor Platinum ( dodgy one via Russian State Bank Visa Infinite promo)
Currently staying at Pullman Sydney Olympic Park. Booked family twin room advanced purchase with breakfast.
Bennies:
Nothing, nil, zip, nada.
Got the room I booked, no welcome letter, amenity or upgrade. To be fair all 3 Accor properties here are crammed due to a combination of the NSW Primary State Swimming and the Easter Show.
This hotel is looking rather tired and common areas need some TLC.

3/3 room upgrades without asking at novotel St Kilda x 2 and the Victoria Hotel.

each room booked as the cheapest available, the first was a $100 room to the $600 penthouse suite, awesome as I was only staying 9 hrs. The last was on the weekend of the Aus GP so that worker well.

Very nice, i just wonder, if you booked a club floor luxury room, would you get upgraded to junior suite :)

checked in tonight, and was upgraded again. I think this is 4/4 or 5/5, something like that. all in all, it hasn't cost me anything and I have gotten a few things out of it so it works for me.

I stayed at Sofitel Melbourne last week. I had booked a club room, and that is what I got. I had requested upgrade if available via email and on check-in. Wasn't offered any free drinks, however as staying in a club room this didn't bother me. The 4pm late checkout was honoured and I received a welcome note, fruit plate, additional bottles of water and a box of 2 truffles.

it's really like a lottery sometimes isn't it? inconsistent benefits, one wonders why even bother signing up?

I'm done with a-club. The chain just isn't any good. Booked stays at Novotel Airport Amsterdam, and Mercure Stoller Zurich as a Platinum. Some done through Kayak, some done through a-club website. No recognition of status at all even with the card. They claim that I didn't booked through A-club website I wouldn't get recognition, despite only being able to charge in Euro's and having overall higher fees.

Booked with crowne plaza in KL, instantly recognized and given a club room with apples delivered to the room.
