Suggestions for SYD-SIN-KUL and return?

I have enjoyed using Zuji for various things.

Have only changed tickets twice I believe.

Case 1) Was shifting Domestic J tickets. No fee charged.
Case 2) Actually convinced QF to change my J tickets. Once again, no fee charged.

As I've said before, the Zuji fee seems to be an optional fee from them. When it applies, I'm not sure. But assume it's when you really annoy them!

F is F... Regardless of what fare bucket you fly in the cabin you will still get the "F" status credits, miles etc. (Barring of course the usual non creditible classes such as staff travel, frequent flyer points etc etc etc).

I just want to check again before I book my flights today. I am looking at taking BA16 on Sun 8th Jan and returning on QF32 on Wed 18th Jan (although the return date may yet change). Zuji's website is quoting a fare of $4,850 for these flights. I phoned them to enquire about the class of fare and they said it was an "A" class fare.

The QF website shows that 150 SCs are earned in first class for the SYD-SIN sector. Will I earn the same amount of SCs flying over on BA?

And are there any gotchas with an "A" class fare? Zuji quotes a change fee of $50.00 for this fare.

As long as flying an airline that counts for status, for a given class of travel and distance the SC earning is same no matter what airline's metal.

No gotchas. "A" is discounted first class. As with any other code, if making changes there needs to be availability in that code.

Yes, same SCs for all OneWorld flights regtardless of carrier for First and Business Class travel.

Call them up and see if there is an unrestricted IATA fare that books into F. Such a fare will not be limited to travel on specific carriers and if things go wrong you can transfer to an SQ flight for no cost (and no QF SCs or QF FF points either).

Thanks again NM and Kiwi Flyer.

When I got back onto Zuji this evening, the BA16/QF32 combination was gone. So I opted for QF31/32 and then discovered that the quoted price of $4,850 did not include taxes. Total was approx $5,152. Then I found that they do not accept Amex for payment. :(

I tried the American Express website and obtained a similar price to Zuji, but when I tried to book it, the website re-presented the same page but with the fare now $1,498.12! It was still showing as first class so I tried to book it but it failed. I tried a few more times and the same thing happened - must be a bug.

So I gave up and booked it directly on the QF website for $5,413. At least if I need to make a change for the return leg I can talk to them directly instead of via a TA.

My schedule while in SIN is not yet confirmed (nor my trip to KUL) but I will try to keep some time free on Sat 16 for the FT do.

Are we looking at the same calendar? The main dinner of the DO is Sat 14th.

Yep - I depart on Sat 7th and return Wed 18th. I have a lot to get through in both SIN and KUL but none of it has been scheduled on specific dates as yet, so I might end up having to work through the weekend of 14th/15th, or perhaps even drive up to KUL with the boss :( . But I'm hoping I will get some free time that weekend to attend the DO.

It was the reference to Sat 16th that threw me.

Ah... sorry Kiwi Flyer. I posted that rather late last night and I guess the brain was not working too well!

I guess that your employer is paying for this. Otherwise, why would you shell out $5,000 for a bus class ticket to SIN/KUL?

I've just been on a little trip (arrived back 7/12/05) SYD-KUL-SIN-HKG-SIN-HKT-BKK-KUL-SYD. Probably didn't cost more than AUD1500 and I was operationally upgraded to C class on the SIN-HKG-SIN and KUL-SYD sectors. That's what you can get flying *A as opposed to QF.

I suppose if it's not your money you don't care.

 Well, I do care. My employer is paying for it, but I'm the boss in Australia so it's my call on how I travel. 8) I allowed $5,000 for return J airfares per SYD-SIN trip in my budget for 2006, based on QF's website rate, knowing that I'd probably get it a bit cheaper via a TA. When I found that I could travel first class for only $300 more I decided to give it a try - I've never flown first class before.

In past years I've flown SQ in J and saved the company money, and for local travel I take a lot of DJ flights at low cost, e.g. $49 each way for SYD-MEL, which enables me to splurge occasionally on J (PER-SYD) or A this time to SIN. As long as I stay within my overall budget it's OK, and given that I have to eat into a lot of personal time on these international trips I think it's fair. :D

Glad you've put it under the microscope. It's still a lot of money, though (from my perspective). Guess if it's your own company that's fine.

However, the extra 4 Grand or so buys a mighty fine hotel room at the other end (just my warped way of looking at things).

Not my company. I'm the local GM. The hotel choice in SIN is usually dictated by our Asian office - they like something close so that they can transport me and others coming in from BKK and HKG. Most likely will be The Gallery @ Robertson Quay.
