suggestions for SYD - CPT travel in 2011

Hi all. Traveling SYD - CPT in October 2011. Will be with Mrs G and 1 YO baby, so we will need a stopover in JNB before continuing to CPT.
I have never traveled to S.A. before so would be grateful for any suggestions for itineraries or airlines.
Can see 2 Qantas award (classic) seats SYD - JNB (J) - JNB - CPT (Y) for 196 k points on 11/10/11. Will then have to pay $$ to fly back to SYD and that will have to be Y+. If the flights aren't usually full then as a WP I might better of with a Y tickets & points upgrade?
I am also Velocity Gold so thought about a Y+ ticket on VA and hope of an upgrade but VA website says they no longer fly to S.A. after February 2011.

One quick suggestion would be if you are going to use your points use them only for the SYD/JNB/SYD sectors. Its really cheap to fly within South Africa on either SA/BA or any number of the discount/budget airlines
