Hi
I'll be travelling to Bangalore next year. Any suggestions for routing with the most QFF points and SC's. It will be in J class.

I checked Qantas and they fly to Mumbai where I have to pick up an Indian Airlines domestic flight. I was hoping to get to Bangalore on an international flight with a oneworld airline. BA does - except it's only from London!

Thanks

I always fly SYD - BOM using QF. Then change to Jet Airways for any domestic flights. I'm not aware of any OneWorld airlines that fly domestically within India.

Never ever fly Indian Airlines.

Not too many options with OW. *A is better with LH, SQ and TG.

MH, SQ and TG are probably the most convenient 1 stop from Australia (I havent checked how well timetables connect).

There are no options into BLR with OneWorld. The closest you can get is BOM with QF, CX or BA (the long way).

To maximise QF Status Credits and flight experience, take CX in J. But you will miss out on the Platinum member Status Bonus (paid on QF, BA and AA) on CX flights.

Thanks to all :D .. Looks like I will try the QF/Jet Airways flights. Although it may depend on my return date as QF does not fly every day :( .

No help to you right now but............

There is a rumour doing the rounds that Air Sahara (S2) is in talks with BA and AA.

With India being a strong growth market for airlines, possibly a new addition to the 1world alliance soon.

varyingtravel I would be interested to hear about your hotel experiences there as I too plan to travel there next year. Lindsay Wilson has posted before about the low supply/ high demand & prices of hotel rooms in BLR and I'd appreciate any feedback.

Sure thing BlacKnox. Although it looks like I'm limited to one hotel by my employer -
Itc Hotel Windsor Sheraton & Towers
25 WINDSOR SQ. GOLF COURSE RD. OPPOSITE BANGALORE GOLF COURSE, BANGALORE 560052
And the corporate rate I'm supposed to get is USD187.
I'm supposed to be there sometime in January but haven't got dates confirmed yet - Hopefully they'll do it soon otherwise I just might find out how low supply is!

The ITC Windsor Sheraton is a very nice hotel. I expect to be there in January myself. Maybe I'll see you in the bar...

Thanks varyingtravel. Have you heard that Bangalore may change its name to Bengalooru?

Bangalore to change name

DECEMBER 15, 2005

BANGALORE, long known as India's Garden City and now a global technology hub, is set to change its name to Bengalooru, reverting to a centuries-old title that means "the town of boiled beans". The city of 6.5 million, capital of southern Karnataka state, is the latest to propose dropping a colonial name that British rulers found easier to pronounce than the original.

The financial centre of Bombay has become Mumbai, the southern city of Madras is now Chennai, and Calcutta is Kolkata.

"The decision has been taken. Most likely it will be from November, 2006," a spokesman for state Chief Minister Dharam Singh said.

However, a Bill to change the city's name has yet to pass Karnataka's state assembly.

Bangalore houses more than 1,500 technology and office service companies that account for a third of India's $US17-billion software and office service industry.

The original name of Bangalore is said to be derived from "benda kalooru", or boiled beans, because a king exhausted during a forest hunt in the 14th century was fed boiled beans by a villager where the city now stands.

I doubt the airport code will change though. After all, Mumbai remains BOM (Bombay), Chennai MAA (Madras) & Kolkata CCU (Calcutta).
