Suggestions for Japan Travel mid March to early April 2017

The tickets are booked for the AngieP family (Mum, Dad, two daughters 23 and 26) to return to Japan from 19 March to 5 April. First night is booked in Tokyo, then five nights in a house in Kyoto, two nights temple stay in Koyasan (a repeat but a favourite!) - then we have a gap for six nights before returning to Tokyo for the last 3 nights in Asakusa. Considering Kinosaki for 3 nights onsen stay (is this the right choice for onsen? stayed at Kusatsu last time) but what about the other 3 nights before we return to Tokyo? Looking for some suggestions from all you Japan experts! We will have 14 day rail passes and love a train trip. We are experienced and adventurous travellers - both the girls speak Japanese. So let's see what is possible! Thanks in advance! :idea::idea::idea:

I reckon the sumo wrestling is about the most japanese thing you can do. That time of year would be o-hanami (I think). I'm tipping you've already done these things though. Nip down to Okinawa? I'd ask on Thorn Tree too.

Not going to Koyasan is my one travel regret with Japan.. will do next time

If its a no to Hiroshima, then for the Sumo, we got a box and it was a lot of fun, trying to communicate with the people around us (which wont be a problem with your kids) but try to get a box thats facing the sumo.

There is always the option of the Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama, or the Electricity Museum in Nagoya.

You could look at going to Nikko or Kanazawa if you have not been to those places before. Or for a bit of nature Takachiho Gorge and Miyazaki on Kyushu. Although you may need to check if March/April is a good time to go to get the most out if it.
