We'll have three nights in Split in early June after six days on a cruise. I know nothing about Split (or Croatia for that matter) and whilst browsing tripadvisor, I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any recommendations (or warnings) about accommodation in Split.

Thanks in advance.

We stayed at Well Of Life Luxury Rooms - centre of town, affordable and was brand new (went last year) - highly recommend. For coffee, recommend D16 and 4coffee.

We used AirBNB in both Dubrovnik and Zagreb and had a great experience in both places. It was nice to be one notch away from the crowds and a more local feel. I felt the price difference between hotels <> airBNB was greater in Croatia in general.

We enjoyed our short stop in Split.
It was part of a cruise itinerary.
Out of interest, which cruise did you do? I'm currently looking, but I'm struggling to make a decision... lots of options with only slight differences.

Friends stayed in a hotel inside the Diocletian Palace area. No complaints and there are quite a few hotels in that area to choose from. Check out a map from one of the hotel booking sites but book direct with the hotel for best room.

I stayed in an airbnb just outside the city walls, OK - but I think for a short stay that being right in the town is best. Either on or near the Riva or near Narodni Trg (Square) is better as you can walk out for an early start to sightseeing and avoid the crowds.

During a 3 night stay in Split you would also have time to jump on a Jadrolina ferry to Hvar island for the day.

I stayed at Hotel Slavija inside the palace walls, it was a convenient walk to everywhere I needed to go The rooms are clean, with airconditining and wifi. I didnt eat at the hotel as too many better choices nearby.

As for crusises i did a small boat cruise (30 passengers + 5 crew) through Intrepid/Peregrine from Split to Dubrovnik over 7 nights, stopping at a different Island almost every night on the way down the coast i.e. Hvar, Korcula. The rooms were basic, but full size private shower and regular (not marine) toilet, air conditioning, tv. No pool, but boat stopped at least twice each day for us to go swimming in the sea, they had snorkel equipment, stand up paddle boards, kayaks too. Unlike the large cruise ships, no launch needed, just walk off the boat at each pier and some nights we were th eonly ship in port so no huge cruise ship crowds (except in Split and Dubrovnik).

We're going the other way - DBV-SPU.

Have a look at https://cruise-croatia.com.au; We picked our boat firstly from deluxe category (YOLO) then based on the best fit dates and then got our TA to do the booking as it was 25% deposit, balance T-90d rather than 100% if booked direct. We had booked the same ship and the reverse itinerary for 2019 but I very inconsiderately became unable to travel.

MrsC has found a hotel that's halfway between Palace and Square (about 50m from each) . They've emailed us to ascertain our arrival date, time, ship and will meet us and transport us to the hotel from the port in their golf cart. This hotel was one of the ones I was talking about in the Trivago thread that was cheapest booked through QF - Trivago > direct > QF by about €200 for our stay. I'll write it up in a TR.
