Suggestion for spilt system air con?

I've a few here.
- Ducted heating all round (downstairs) but don't use it anymore.
- Upstairs has a 15yo Mitsubishi which used in Summer only for cooling.
- Downstairs living has a 5yo large Fujitsu for the main living area.
- Have earlier this year due to lockdown and WFH installed 2 small Fujitsu units in 2 front room (front of house is double fronted Victorian so enclosed rooms which is where I work).

The guy who installed them preferred Mitsubishi HI by a whisker over Fujitsu, but with the rebates Fujitsu offer are better value for money.

I find they don't push the electricity bill much (looking at the graph, it uses plenty to get to the right temp, then does not much to maintain it). Heaps cheaper than the gas/electricity of the ducted heating system.

Our children loved having their own split unit in their largish bedrooms. We could never satisfy them with the central reverse cycle system.

Remember the French phrase about wine - “the vines must suffer when young to achieve greatness in the old age”. (Actually, the story as told to LE or JH as “Do you know all vines are Catholic.” :) ) but I’m sure the same applies to children!

Give some thought to the noise from the outdoor unit and the potential to bother the neighbours. Just last week I saw a situation where a 20kW condenser was placed a few meters from the neighbours outdoor space. The noise could even be heard inside the neighbours house and the EPA had issued non-compliance orders. Bloke couldn't use his aircon at all until a compliant situation was demonstrated. That's where I come in, and the only solution was to replace the 20kW unit with several smaller units up on the roof and put up screens. Mucho costo.

I would choose between Daikin and MHI.

This is indeed a serious issue. Many of the older units sounded like old Kelvinator fridges from the 50‘s. Most modern systems are pretty quite and with judicious placement shouldn’t be a issue to neighbours, but it’s worth checking the decibel levels of the external compressors before you commit.

the big ones are full bore aren’t quiet - even brand new ones. Well, they can be at low load, but if the temperature differential is 10-20 deg C between inside and outside, the big fans can make quite a racket because the amount of air they move is enormous.

Fortunately my installer thought this through (as I wouldn’t have known/realised) and we have them in a location which doesn’t bother the neighbours
