Watched many wheelies board first at MCY via the forklift - wouldn't bother me to have him board last.....they normally seat them in the first few rows.

Was the "screw-up" the fact he logically went to the toilet before boarding (given a "wheelie" would have considerably more difficulty using the on-board facilities)..........if so I've also screwed up too?

Was the "screw-up" the fact his mental telepathy wasn't properly attuned to hear the non-existant page.......if so, I believe I've read about many AFFers screwing up each time they complain about the lounge flight calls?

Was the "screw-up" the fact he went to the desk before general boarding to enquire about his boarding.........shame on his pro-activeness catching out the dozing dragons?

I think (personal opinion here, mind you), that from a flyer whose legs work as originally intended, all these so-called "screw-ups" happen to all of us. People who are slightly more constrained by their mobility should be offered every reasonable assistance. Let's face it, how many times have we been seated aboard an already late aircraft waiting for some able-bodied goose to have their lugguge removed because they've not shown? We wait for them. I don't think it's a big ask to wait an extra 3 minutes while a wheelchair bound person is boarded after everyone else..........or was that the real issue, because some idiot had checked in on-line and failed to show, they were already running late with departures so the guy in the wheelchair gets bumped?

He was on the CBR ABC news this evening and stuck to the same story as previously reported.

I travelled recently on the same flight with the para-olympic shooting team to Germany.

So many other passengers needed a slap around the head, not these lot.

Would we even be discussing this if it happened to an able bodied person.....no way.....typical slow news day. The media create the news, not report it.

So qantas had a stuff up. They got him on the next available flight, offered him a rental car and tried to make ammends. Interesting to note that the offer of a car was refused, certainly wouldnt have made such a good story if accepted, wouldnt have made him out to be so poorly done by. boo hoo

I'd say that someone who lives with a severe disability has probably proven themselves to be far more capable of "sucking it up" than most of us. But being judgemental (when you don't actually know the full facts) is way easier than being either empathetic or open-minded, I guess.

An alternate ending:

No News Reporter - Canberra.

Again Qantas blows it's on time performance and eats into shareholders profits while looking after a single passenger who was not at his dedicated meeting point on time [wheel chair bound passengers must meet at a designated time and area] and had not bothered to tell the Qantas ground staff his intentions to use the bathroom minutes before his dedicated boarding.

Qantas delayed boarding of the Qantas Link Dash 8 service and had to wait for now rescheduled fork lift driver and ground staff. Qantas management in their caring loving way did this without consideration for the other 40 pax onboard, without thought for on time performance, and without thought for connecting pax heading to other domestic flights and international flights and of course without thought for the freight on-board.

The passenger who held up the flight for a considerable time due to the forklift actually being scheduled and booked for unloading freight was not charged for the delay, in fact, all the other pax on the flight came up and gave him a hug and said how great the Qantas business model was that they would delay flights and have no care regarding knock on effects. This Alan Joyce is a gem one was heard to say..

All I can go on is the story, but it appears the pax stuffed up, Qantas bent over backwards to help him anyway, but yet he carries a grudge. At the risk of flaming I offer the observation that just because you have a physical disability doesnt mean you are somehow automatically a great person.
