Hi all

Looking to see if anybody has been successful with redeeming on flying qantas classic business rewards flights out of Australia recently? Exemption aside (I.e. assuming you have this already), I see availability for late November on Qatar codeshare flights but not sure if these tickets are getting bumped at the moment?

Thanks

Departing Australia shouldn’t be an issue provided the flights go ahead with passengers. There are no caps on passenger numbers leaving Australia other than the difficulty in securing an exemption to leave.

I was able to get two people on Cathay but this was for a May booking. Getting back is the issue but I only want to fly into Adelaide. I can secure two on CX and MAS using the multicity booking.

Ah ok thanks. I thought it may have been the case that there wouldn’t be many restrictions on the way out other than the exemption of course

Well there is also the fact that with restrictions on leaving no-one is actually running many flights so not many seats available of any type and points redemption probably not the airlines main priority.

Having said that I have some friend who managed to book a Qantas flight on points to London on 8th December. However Qantas just cancelled recently, I was surprised actually they didn't just move them to a later flight given their recently announced opening up but then points bookings are usually hard to acquire over Xmas.

I’ve been doing some speculative searching for Q1/2 2022 J to Europe. Preference is to try and snag some QF sectors to get some SCs (with PC) but not seeing much/anything on QF ex-SYD (not a total surprise). Quite a bit of CX, BA, JL and there were some QF ex BNE.

I’ve booked Sydney-Auckland-London-Tokyo-Sydney for March to May in Business with Qantas, Qatar and JAL and 8 economy seats for my children/grandchildren Sydney -Tokyo return for May with JAL all with points that come back if they don’t fly.

Ah right. I’ve managed to confirm a booking but will just have to wait and see I guess.

thanks

I was looking for J classic flight reward seats on QF9 PER-LHR without much luck.

Starting to wonder if they've even released any, unless they're fully snapped up through to 5 September (as a WP).. which seems unlikely...

I'm not sure they have EVER released any on that route. You could try ringing to ask them to release one but chances are fairly slim. You'll usually only get economy.

Interesting. I thought I'd redeemed some previously on it, but perhaps I stumped up full fare or upgraded from PE..

I expect those flights will be in high demand for paid seats - no transits and more likely to arrive without any sort of quarantine or multiple tests in the UK. As such, I doubt there will be (m)any award seats.

Agree. I have seen Y availability but nothing in J.

QF has been fairly generous with business class availability on their flights to the USA, particularly out of BNE, and SYD-YVR. Lots of availability through partners as well such as Alaska Airlines. That availability is drying up pretty quickly though. There's the odd flight with J class now, more with PEY. Plenty of coach.

Any thoughts on Qatar posting J availability for November through QANTAS website? If available and confirmed what are the chances of this getting canceled? Flight is departing australia not entering

And with no A380 flying for QF we can’t purchase J and put in for a F upgrade to use points that way.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

QFF does not offer business class award seats to/from Australia despite it being noted that QR has J award seats on EF and are being offered by AA and BA!

but then points bookings are usually hard to acquire over Xmas.

May be that's why ... QF cancels a reward booking in the hopes that, when travel opens up desperate customers will pay $$ to purchase the same ticket instead of a reward redemption

When QR first joined OW, there was plenty of seat availability via QFF then it suddenly turned to a trickle. When did it stop altogether? (I guess there’s probably a discussion thread on it?).

I don't believe it has...for one passenger. Unfortunately 2 x seats haven't been available for some time. A quick search for 1 passenger on 2/9/22:
