STOCKHOLM--Finnish airline Finnair Oyj (FIA1S.HE) said Thursday it has canceled a number of flights to avoid congestion at Helsinki Airport in the event of a strike by its staff.
A spokeswoman for the airline told The Wall Street Journal that 24 flights that were due to depart from Helsinki airport on Friday have been canceled, but that could change as negotiations between the airline and two trade unions continue.

Interesting that the flights have been cancelled before any strikes have occurred. Surely it would be better to wait till they eventuate, and put contingency plans into place then. Especially as the strikes may not even happen.

I thought I read elsewhere that the strikes have been cancelled and agreement reached with the flight attendants union. I'll see if I can find the reference.

Finnair has reached an 11th-hour agreement with the Finnish Flight Attendants Association (SLSY) and the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU), which cancels industrial action scheduled to begin today. As a result, the airline expects traffic to return to normal within a few days.

But other reports suggest there is still a risk of strike:
