Strategy to obtain US Amex

Trying to apply for chase and otter cards for family members after receiving their itin . No luck yet . Any tips for creating their credit file thru adding it to additional cards on Amex and chase ?
Both have / had Amex through GT .
I recently received my ITIN and applied for a Chase card, even though none of my existing Amex or HSBC accounts were linked to my ITIN.

Initially, I kept getting declined, but I continued calling Chase until I finally reached a representative who was genuinely willing to help. They asked me a few verification questions, processed the application, and sent me a link to upload supporting documents. A few days later, my application was approved.

Based on my experience, I don't think you necessarily need an established U.S. credit history to get approved for a Chase card. Persistence seems to make a big difference.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine. His first application was declined, and after several calls he still couldn't get it approved. About a week later, he applied again, was initially told it was declined, but he kept following up and eventually found a representative who reviewed the application properly and got it approved.

So my advice would be: don't give up after the first decline. Keep calling, ask for a manual review, and if needed, submit any supporting documents they request. It worked for both of us.

Question for the forum, has anyone managed to get both the HSBC Premier Card and the Elite Card at the same time or is it still enforcing the 1 card only rule?

I wouldn’t be so sure about this.

What were the verification questions you got?

And what Chase card did you get? If it was a CSR, CSP, an Ink or an airline/hotel co-branded card, you would have needed at least a good to excellent credit score. Chase do not give out their more premium cards to anyone.

Just because your ITIN isn’t ‘linked’ to your Amex or HSBC accounts, it does not mean that you do not already have an established credit file with the credit bureaus that show your Amex/HSBC history.

Financial institutions do not just search your ITIN to pull your credit file. Relevantly, most ITINs don’t show properly with Experian so if they were searching that alone, they wouldn’t find your record. Instead they can find it using your name, address, DOB etc.

When I recently got approved by Chase, one of the verification questions I got was “which of these three addresses have you lived at at any point in time”. Sure enough, the answer was an address which was on my credit file for my first ever Amex GT card for no more than 1-2 statements.

However, the part I do agree with is persistence with Chase when seeking an approval and reconsideration.
