When I did it - I recall in 2019, when I opened my checking account, I told them I'd like a CC too. I got sent a prefilled application form from my RM (I haven't had one since the sale of the retail customer base) through Adobe and then received it delivered in AU a few weeks later. I suspect it's gotten more difficult since then. I have the Premier CC - was "free" at the time though not anymore. I made my elderly mother a supp and she uses it for supermarket shopping since it's 3x in AU.

Can ask for annual fee to be waived as a points redemption . And they will gift you the points if you don’t have any or enough !

Australian international banking center to see if they could initiate an application on the Australian side. They said they only help with bank accounts and I’d need to fly to the U.S. and apply at a branch in person for a credit card

Customer Service tends to give out wrong answer as they are not even sure themselve.

No you do not need to fly to US to apply.

If rejected, call HSBC U.S on premier line told them you are Premier Customer and trying to apply CC but got rejected because the System do not recognise your premier status from Australia. They may ask if you are calling from U.S - Always say Yes. They will send you to some verification dept. to process the application.

i've never once said i'm in the US and has never been an issue for me. What is the concern by being in Australia when calling?

Certain services can be requested only if you are present in the US . Makes a difference .

i'd be interested to know which though, applying for a US credit card is not one of them though unless it's changed in the last 6 months.

I know it is for applying for a savings account .
Received only yesterday letter dated 16 jan from chase asking me to contact them regarding suspicious transaction on a card . Which I didn’t receive in time so they closed my cards .

I’m no the same boat, try to update my ITIN into AMEX I have contacted AMEX today and they provide me with link but unable to update.
I have contacted them again via chat and ask me to contact them and provide me with the number.

You cannot retrospectively add an ITIN but it will eventually be linked to your credit file. The credit reporting agencies link together reports through a variety of identifiers (ie name, address, DOB and not just ITIN).

I currently have two different US addresses, one from Anytime Mailbox and one from US Globalmail. I am keeping both at the moment, as the US Globalmail has better customer service (But the address is listed as CRMA sadly) While the Anytime address is not listed as CRMA. (But they are very slow when it comes to mail forwarding and never replies to emails)
I am also planning to open some bank accounts when i visit the US next month.

I can’t speak for the others but for BofA, the answer is effectively no.

Your ‘residential’ address will need to be your Australian address. Your ‘mailing’ address will need to be a proper US address.

You could try the Anytime address but if it’s status as a CMRA changes, it could cause issues and an account shutdown. That might not be the end of the world though as long as you have a back up option and as long as you’re not keeping too much in the account.

PNC and SoFi on the other hand allow both a US residential and a US mailing address and they both have me on file as a NRA.

Well after about an hour and a half on the phone tonight I’ve managed to have the application reopened with them running an international credit check over the course of today US time. It took a lot of persuasion to get it reopened.
