Strategy to obtain US Amex

As per my recent discussions with them . I don’t think that’s true .
I hold the Premier and got declined from the Elite. When I asked, they said it was because I couldn’t hold both but they gave me the option to upgrade to the Elite. I have heard another similar datapoint to this too.
@DAC1 would you mind dropping me a DM with his details?
DM incoming!

Could you DM me the link too? I can’t DM you

I have Premier. What am I missing re the Elite? I’ve had a look again. There are plenty of cards with lower AF offering higher category bonuses eg in travel and dining.

Good for the first year: 80/100K SUB, 2x $300 hotel credit, 2x $200 AA/BestBuy credit, some other benefits for $595. Basically, they pay you for 80-100K ThankYou Points.

Does upgrading to Elite come with bonus points?

I think they’re talking about HSBC Elite, not Citi. But in terms of benefits main advantages are that the travel earn also extends to things like QF Marketplace and unlimited PP including restaurants plus 2 guests.

Yep agree re what's attracting me - the other point is that (hopefully!) having Prem checking account will mean approval for it without ITIN or credit file so it's a decent way to get started.

I have a Citi personal and biz card both with excess limit . Looking to apply for the Citi elite card . Would it help Or harm my chances if I reduced my existing card limits ?

Any recent DPs from anyone re risks with accepting the 15k MR points for $4k spend for 5 AMEX employee cards?

I imagine the 60 day rule still applies re meeting min spend, getting the points and closing without providing SSN?

I looked at QF marketplace to buy MC/Visa GCs now that the Coles offers have stopped but they said I could only buy those with points. Can I buy them with CC or do you guys use QF marketplace for other types of purchases?

QF marketplace codes as Travel -> Airline with AMEX so useful if you buy GCs if you are trying to hit category bonuses or SUB requirement + addl 3x QF points per $ spent pretty often!

Will this work for those card that provide statement credit for airline spend as well ?

Not sure but highly likely i imagine, I used it recently with ABP SUB - $500 off $2500 in airline spend, worked well - just bought TCN prepaid MC and paid ATO when there was a sale on QF marketplace few weeks ago

Just on the site now - I have some QF points so it's proposing I buy them with my points which is awful value. I want to buy them with my CC. How do you switch payment? I added more cards than I had points to pay for to my cart and it refused to take me to the checkout page. It did once I reduced the number of cards to within my points balance.. Am I missing something? I'm interested in using this method but as far as I can tell QF marketplace only wants me to pay for open loop GCs with points.

I just had a look as well, you are right - looks like they have changed the TCN MCs to only accept payments via points now after the debacle on TCN end when I bought it 4 weeks ago!

Maybe somebody can find a way around it, but I can only see payment via points as well :(

I think this is the way it was when I looked at this some time ago. QF said I was only going to be able to buy those GCs with points but could buy the store specific cards with other payment methods.

That was a one off error. You couldn’t do it before that and it only allowed it for a couple of days.
