Strategy to obtain US Amex

Hi everyone. I applied and got my Hilton Surpass last Nov. I now want to upgrade to Aspire but i read somewhere that I need to get my FICO score before i can apply. For some reasons, I am still unable to see my FICO score, anyone knows how long it takes before i can see my score

For me it was about 9 months.

You want to upgrade the current card to Aspire or apply for Aspire? If you want to upgrade, it is not possible as the credit card act prevents banks from increasing the personal card fee in the first 12 months (business cards are fine).

If you want to apply and is impatient, at least wait full 6 months. A few people got approved without the the score showing but all applied after 6 months. It was a bit less than 6 months in my case (not aware about FICO rule). When it's not showing on Amex, it doesn't mean your score does not exist. It's just safest to wait until you see it which could take 6 to 10 months.

Not long enough to generate FICO.

I wouldn’t recommend upgrading within 12 months as that puts you at the risk of having SUB clawed back. If you do, make sure you have discussed it with Amex beforehand.

Hi nthd,

Curious to see how you went after changing the address to your US address on your ITIN? I'm about to apply for an ITIN as I'd like to do my first GT with Amex. Trying to understand what address I should use on the application, my Aus or US address!
Make sure don't put residential address as Australia. I made that mistake and didn't understand why Amex kept saying they could not verify me, even thought ITIN got sent correctly to my US address. I created account with IRS chose to get verified by ID.me then when I logged I found my transcript got generated with Australia address

Thank you for this bit of info! Reading through this thread, I thought the ITIN for GT rules changed in Sep 2023. If I don't need to get an ITIN that would be preferable!
If you could, log in to Amex and choose apply in another country that is GT process. Without ITIN.

Super helpful, thank you mate. Will try without an ITIN as I'm after the Bonvoy Brilliant card mainly for Platinum status at Marriott. You can stack the reward nights that with the Bonvoy Business card as well, so I may still need an ITIN for that one when I get further down the track.

Could I ask if you applied for an ITIN yourself or did you go through an someone like SH Studio Providing a US residential address may be a bit tricky if I utilise their services.

SH Studio - Echo what others said. Super easy and reliable source so far I heard. I saw Maza Financial has great price on offer for ITIN - cheaper than SH Studio on fiverr but has no DP for that.

Super useful.
Could you please share your thoughts and experience as I signed up for it almost a month now but it's frustrating me because unlike seats.aero or pointsyeah, point.me just give me a one day option and I prefer to search multiple dates or multiple destinations/regions. I love the features seats.aero provides, except the "not up to date" results. I could be missing something from point.me. Lots of people love it and recommend it but I havent found that for myself so if someone cares to point me to the right way to use point.me? Also, for Aussie, we are pron to book with Singapore as well and Singapore is not on those programs search or not been found a lot of times.

Does anyone have an issue with their US MR transaction history? For over a month it just says " Rewards Transaction information is not available at this time. Please try again later."

I applied for a Chase Sapphire with 11 months of credit history. I kept getting the error of “ITIN mismatch” when calling. No idea why.

I’m starting to wonder if this is because I actually have a Chase account that I opened using my passport (and ITIN was not provided when I opened it). I could see the status of the application on my Chase account opened with my passport. Could this be why? I understand I can get my ITIN attached to my Chase account but that it would have to be done in person. Anyone have any experiences?

I now have 14 months of credit history and a strong credit score. I really want to get the IHG card ASAP. I was thinking of making the trip to the US to fix this in person and apply for the CC in the branch but then I read cobranded cards typically can’t be opened in the branch (only cards like Sapphire).

Or you can try to open an IRS account and see if your details match. Someone mentioned on here that it might be an option and helped them find the potential error. I might be misremembering details.

Yes, that was me. @thedamon You can try to create online account with IRS - choose to get verified by ID.me and follow the process. Once your account is verified with passport and a document/bank statement with your US address then you can have visibility into your ITIN details. That's how I found out why the bank kept saying they couldnot verified me with my ITIN - my residential address was in Australia.

Interesting! I’ll try this. How did you end up fixing the residential address part?

When sending in the ITIN application I can see it had my applicant mailing address (US based), but also my foreign (non-US address). Was I supposed not to fill in the foreign address? The letter from the IRS was sent to my US address and the address is also listed on the ITIN letter
